Analyst-Sales Tax (On-Site)

Job Summary: Performs various data analysis and research for client jurisdictions to identify possible misallocation of payments for local sales and transaction taxes. Work will include communication with businesses to discuss payment transactions and business activity details.Duties and Responsibilities:Assist in the review and analysis of various data to develop leads for misallocated sales tax based on data from the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA). Monthly review of sales tax permit and payment reports to identify anomalies (either no payment and/or an increase/decrease) and potential misallocations, thus generating leads for further investigation. Coordinate with senior audit staff to confirm if there was an error and obtain required information and documentation from the business taxpayer, as applicable. Contact businesses/tax preparers, when necessary, to discuss potential reporting misallocation and/or deficiency of sales tax payments. Prepare written documentation of the facts of the sales tax transaction which serves as the basis for a misallocation petition to the state CDTFA. Education and Experience:3-5 years’ experience in accounting, bookkeeping, audit, customer service, or data analysisKnowledge of sales and use tax is beneficial, but not requiredStrong computer skills, including Word, Excel, Internet, and proprietary softwareKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Strong research and analytical skillsStrong communication skills, both orally and in writingSelf-driven and curious with ability to review data, find leads, pursue leads, and document them in order to ultimately generate revenue for the client and the companyWork EnvironmentThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as the employee works in an office setting, at an individual work station, using telephone and computerPhysical DemandsMust be able to remain in a stationary position for most of the dayConstantly operates a computer and other office machineryThe person in this position frequently communicates via telephoneNeumo Summary:With the backing of four decades of public sector expertise and corporate capability, Neumo has successfully supported government services.
