Full Stack/ Data Engineer

About the RoleA UK-based technology and defense company is expanding its US engineering capability and looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help build its core platform and establish the local engineering team.This is a hands-on role for someone strongest in Python, backend and data engineering, but comfortable working across ML/AI tooling and frontend development to deliver complete features.You'll have significant autonomy, taking problems from initial requirements through technical design and delivery.What You'll Do:Build new product and platform functionalityOwn Python-heavy backend and data engineering workDevelop reliable systems for data-rich and AI-enabled workflowsWork with ML/AI tooling and integrate machine learning capabilities into productsContribute across the stack when needed, including React or VueWork with customer and mission stakeholders to turn ambiguous requirements into technical solutionsHelp shape engineering standards as the US team growsWhat We're Looking For:Excellent Python engineering skillsStrong production experience in backend and/or data engineeringA track record of independently delivering meaningful software projectsComfortable with ML tooling, AI-enabled products and data-intensive applicationsWilling to work across the stack when requiredExposure to React or Vue is beneficialStrong problem-solving and stakeholder communication skillsWe care more about the scope and quality of what you've built than a specific number of years of experience.Location:The role is remote, but you must be able to travel to the company's US office in Herndon, VA at short notice as and when clients/customers need.Candidates based in Virginia or within easy travelling distance of Herndon are strongly preferred.US citizenship is requiredCandidates must be eligible to obtain a US security clearanceAn existing clearance is advantageous, but not requiredCompensation:Base salary: $140,000 to $200,000Annual bonus: Up to 25%Why Join?Join a growing US engineering operation at an early stage, working across backend, data and AI-enabled products while helping shape the team's technical capability.If you're a strong Python engineer who likes working across technical boundaries, we'd like to hear from you.
