Senior Construction Inspector

Janssen & Spaans Engineering (JSE) is looking for a SENIOR construction Inspector to join our team! This position safeguards engineering excellence by inspecting construction of bridges, roadways and other construction work to ensure that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications. It is preferred that the candidate has a Bachelor of Science in Civil/Construction Engineering with a concentration in Highway Projects and 5+ years’ INDOT and other DOT construction inspection experience. COMPENSATION COMMENSURATE WITH EXPERIENCE.Job Description:Delegate tasks effectively and provide guidance/mentoring to inspection staff.Measures distances to verify accuracy of installations and layoutsObserves work in progress to ensure procedures are followed and materials that are used conform to specificationsExamines finished installations for conformity to specifications and approves installationsInterprets plans and specificationsRecords quantities of materials used, and amount of work performedMaintains daily or weekly log of construction and inspection activitiesComputes estimates of work completed and approves payment for contractorsRetains records of materials used and their certificationsPerforms material testing or provides direction for material testing and retains recordsCompiles records of quantities, materials, material testing or certification, daily activities, etc. for submission to clientCompletes assignments accurately, expeditiously, and on scheduleExhibits a positive attitude and willingness to work as a team memberWillingness to take on additional assignments outside of normal work dutiesAdheres to company/client work hours and policiesAbility to work independently and responsible for informing supervisor in advance when current assignment will be completedComfortable in seeking out assignments, as neededOther duties as requiredDesired Skills and Experience:Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Construction EngineeringPE OptionalRegistered as an INDOT Certified Technician (if not a licensed PE)Familiarity with INDOT Specification and Contract means/methodsProficient with Project SiteManager Software (Program replaced with AWP)Proficient with, or ability to learn, AWP AASHTO Software (INDOT’s new software program)Leadership and motivational skillsStrong Time management skillsEfficient analysis and critical thinking skillsExceptional attention to detailAdequate knowledge of Microsoft Office programsConsiderable listening and communication skillsA culmination of Road and Bridge Engineers, CAD Techs, Surveyors, and Project Managers, JSE thrives on pushing the industry forward one project at a time.
