High School Principal

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:1. A master's degree in education, or higher, with a major in educationaladministration.2. A valid state certificate to practice as a school principal.3. At least two years of successful experience in public schooladministration and supervision - preferably at the high school level.4. At least three years of successful experience as a classroom teacher -preferably at the high school level.5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, staff, parentsand community.6. Demonstrated ability to inspire and unify students, staff, parents andcommunity.7. Demonstrated ability to delegate responsibilities.8. Demonstrated ability to make effective decisions with integrity andhonesty.9. Demonstrated ability to deal with a diverse student population.10. Demonstrated ability to identify issues of significant concern and todevelop appropriate action steps to address the issues in a timelymanner.11. LEADERSHIPa. Assumes overall responsibility for the operation of Woodstock High School.b. Implements a personnel evaluation model which promotes self growth and reflection.c. Provides the appropriate supervision to staff to ensure they are meeting or exceedingDistrict expectations for performance.d. Promotes a positive learning climate throughout the school by demonstrating acommitment to students, staff, parents and the educational program.e. Provides leadership in the areas of curriculum development and staff development,working collaboratively with other members of the administrative team.f. Provides leadership for the instructional, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs.g. Facilitates decision-making to enable the staff, students and parents to participate, asappropriate, in developing and accomplishing school goals.h. Communicates District and building goals to students, staff, parents and the communityand fosters a unified "vision" for Woodstock High School.i. Prepares and submits to the Superintendent recommendations relative to all mattersrequiring District support and Board action.j. Encourages staff to develop a program of professional growth and to participate inDistrict staff development; Develops effective building-level staff development activitiesrelated to the school improvement plan.k. Participates in the District curriculum development and review process.l. Utilizes data including standardized test assessments to drive the decision making processand to evaluate the effectiveness of programs, instructional delivery models andcurriculum.m. Facilitates the development of a school improvement plan which provides the "action"plan for the school.n. Articulates not only the vision of the school, but its successes and accomplishments to thecommunity.o. Actively engages parents and the community in the activities and programs offered byWoodstock High School.p. Provides for his/her professional growth, including attending relevant staff developmentprograms, conferences and conventions.2. ADMINISTRATIONa. Applies Board policies and administrative regulations, laws and contracts to staff,students and parents on a consistent basis.b. Recommends employment and assignment for all staff members assigned to the school,(both certified and non-certified), following personnel guidelines and contract language.c. Evaluates individual staff member performance, based on District developed criteria andstandards, and follows appropriate procedures for any staff not meeting Districtexpectations.d. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records for the school, including financialaccounts, inventories, enrollment data, demographic data, student assessments andscholastic records.e. Supervises a system of employee accounting, including personnel records, time sheetsand attendance records.f. Supervises the operation of the school activity accounts in compliance with theprocedures established by the Chief Financial Officer.g. Supervises support services in the areas of maintenance, security, food services, healthservices, recreational programs, financial and accounting functions, library activities andspecial education programs.h. Evaluates on a continuous basis, the effectiveness of high school programs, and supportsthe development of appropriate actions or plans to address identified needs.i. Recommends to the Superintendent both immediate and long-range program needs forthe building so that comprehensive curriculum instructional programs, and instructionaldelivery models are in place and adequate facilities are available to all students.j. Oversees the implementation of the school curriculum and the instructional program toinsure they are aligned to State and District standards.k. Supervises the development of a schedule of classes, working within establishedguidelines.l. Demonstrates knowledge of best practices aligned to school's curriculum and instruction,and shares that knowledge with staff. Works with teachers to plan and/or modifyinstruction based on student needs, and provides teachers with necessary instructionalmaterials, within budgetary guidelines.m. Supervises a procedure for the annual student course selection process and for studentregistration activities.n. Establishes clear guidelines for proper student behavior and implements a system foreffectively dealing with disciplinary problems.o. Develops an ongoing staff development program for the building staff, working incollaboration with the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning.p. Supervises the development of annual faculty and student handbooks.q. Manages the "communications network" of his/her building, including but not limited to:faculty meetings, staff memorandums, planned systems of feedback, ad hoc committees,departmental/divisional meetings and department/division coordinator meetings.r. Establishes and implements emergency procedures for fire, tornado, school closing, busevacuation and other emergency situations.s. Communicates and monitors standards and procedures for the orderly maintenance ofschool facilities.t. Attends meetings of the administrative team and, when requested, Board of Educationmeetings.u. Attends school functions on a regular basis.v. Assures appropriate pupil personnel services for identified students and participates in allaspects of such services.w.
