Wildland Firefighter (Forest-Fire Training Manager)

SummaryThese positions will be located at a USDA Forest Service Unit. This position serves as the Forest Training Center Manager and Forest Fire Training Officer.Major DutiesProvide program leadership and direction in fire management training for the Forest. Monitor fire management training programs to ensure current training development and technical accuracy. Evaluate the Forest's multi-resource fire management training needs and coordinate with cooperating agencies to meet these needs through the design and development of comprehensive fire management training curricula, courses, and materials. Evaluate effectiveness of technology transfer and adjust training material/content to incorporate state-of-the-art technology into the needs and objectives of all fire-related activities.Establish and communicate guidelines and performance requirements to employees; conduct formal performance reviews; and identify and provide for the developmental and training needs of employees. Develop long- and short-range objectives, establish priorities for training staff, develop plans and programs, budget allotments, and integrate fire management and other staff activities. Perform supervisory duties 20% or less of the time; supervise a group of employees performing a variety of duties including Training Specialists, Course/Logistics Coordinators, Administrative Staff, and detailers.EvaluationsThis is a Direct-Hire Authority position.
