Bridge Unit Forester

Coos Forest Protective Association (Coos FPA) is seeking a Unit Forester to manage the Bridge (Myrtle Point), Oregon office. This position will report directly to the District Operations Chief and will be expected to work effectively in a team environment.Unit Forester (UF) duties include, but are not limited to:Performing a wide range of duties related to forest protection including preparation of unit budgets, recruitment, hiring/firing and payroll-related duties of unit employees, pre-suppression activities, supervision of fire suppression and smoke management activities for the unit. An active presence in district training programs and work on special district assignments is required. It is imperative that the UF be proficient in all phases of public relations, have an excellent working knowledge of Bureau of Labor laws as they pertain to private employers and have strong administrative abilities.Working knowledge of fire protection program goals, objectives, policies and operational procedures of both the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF), and Coos Forest Protective Association (CFPA), as well as Oregon Fire Laws, Enforcement policies, and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Western Oregon Operating Plan is required. Knowledge of forest fire prevention, suppression and mobilization principles and techniques, as well as the experience and capability to direct fire action on single and multiple fire situations. The ability to plan and organize a protection unit with limited supervision to accomplish CFPA's goals and standards, including the ability to identify and solve problems, set unit goals and objectives, develop action plans and budgets, and then evaluate unit accomplishments is necessary. This position supervises full-time and temporary employees as well as participates as part of the CFPA Management Team. Qualified Division Supervisor (DIVS), Incident Commander Type 3 (ICT3) and a strong background in fire investigation are preferred.Physical ability to perform instant and/or sustained arduous physical activity on fires, work in inclement weather or other activities requiring endurance is required and will be tested in accordance with company policy.This position requires driving a Coos Forest Protective Association vehicle; you must possess a valid driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Successful candidates will be subject to a driving background check with the Department of Motor Vehicles. Driving may require exposure to steep, narrow forest roads. Assignments to emergency incidents may require employees to be away from duty station for up to 21 days. Various shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and long hours with short notice are required. Assignments to emergency incidents, work sessions or meetings may require being away from the assigned duty station for extended periods of time with travel throughout the State of Oregon or other states as assigned.
