Community CookThe Community Cook assists in preparing meals in a safe and appetizing manner in compliance with dietary standards and food-related Community policies and procedures.Duties and ResponsibilitiesCleans, cuts, prepares, and cooks meat, fish, or poultry to a safe temperature.Prepares and cooks various items according to menus, special dietary or nutritional requirements, or numbers of portions to be served.Bakes breads, rolls, and pastries.Portions and serves food to residents, guests and team members.Washes cooking equipment such as pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and other pieces.Inventories supplies and equipment.Determines, or assists in determining meals and menus.Ensures the cleanliness and functional operation of galley equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas by routinely cleaning and inspecting each piece.Performs other duties as assigned.QualificationsProven cooking experience, including experience as a line chef, restaurant cook or prep cookExcellent understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and proceduresBasic understanding of food handling techniques, preparation, and cooking procedures.Must be able to work quickly and efficiently.Must be able to work well as part of a team.Must be able to work well under pressure.Ability to maintain personal cleanliness.Culinary school diploma preferred.Working ConditionsThis position works in a fast-paced kitchen with exposure to heat, flames, cold temperatures, slippery floors and sharp cooking tools. The Cook may work in close contact with others.
