We’re backed by federal and state grants, strategic investors, and a premier startup accelerator.The OpportunityWe’re looking for a senior scientist to drive the scientific work on our soft magnetic materials platform – owning materials development and characterization, and partnering with the founding team and scientific advisors to set technical priorities. This is a rare chance to be the science engine of a growing company making a positive impact through foundational science.What You'll DoPlan and execute the materials science program, designing experiments, prioritizing technical workloads, and translating commercial requirements into scientific milestonesOwn characterization, loss modeling, and performance data processingCollaborate with power electronics engineering and customers on real-world specificationsContribute to partner conversations, government proposals, and customer technical discussionsHelp build and shape a growing R&D teamWhat You Bring3+ years of post-PhD experience in industry, national lab, or comparable applied R&D environmentPhD in Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or related fieldHands-on experience with materials characterization (VSM, B-H analyzers, impedance)Background in materials processing – including powder synthesis, compaction, heat treatment, or thin-film deposition – relevant to magnetic or functional ceramic materialsStrong working knowledge of soft magnetic materials and loss mechanismsWhat Sets You ApartExperience collaborating across institutions (e.g., national labs, universities, or industry partners) on joint R&D proposals, grant applications, or multi-party technical programComfort owning ambiguity and working hands-on in a small teamCompensationCompetitive salary + meaningful early-stage equity + full benefitsPeraWatt is an equal opportunity employer.
