Neonatology Physician

Neonatologist (MD/DO) Position Summary The Neonatologist provides comprehensive medical care to premature, critically ill, and medically complex newborns in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and related newborn care settings. This role focuses on advanced clinical management, family-centered care, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes for neonates. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide direct medical care to neonates in the NICU, including premature and critically ill infantsPerform comprehensive neonatal assessments, daily rounds, and ongoing managementDiagnose and manage complex neonatal conditions such as respiratory distress, sepsis, congenital anomalies, and metabolic disordersDevelop and implement evidence-based treatment plansSupervise neonatal resuscitation and stabilization in the delivery roomInterpret diagnostic studies including laboratory results, imaging, and blood gasesManage respiratory support including mechanical ventilation and noninvasive modalitiesCoordinate care with neonatal nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, respiratory therapists, and pediatric subspecialistsCommunicate effectively with families regarding clinical status, care plans, and prognosisParticipate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiativesSupervise and educate residents, fellows, medical students, and advanced practice providersMaintain accurate and timely clinical documentationParticipate in on-call coverage for neonatal servicesComply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards Qualifications Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical schoolCompletion of an accredited Pediatrics residency programCompletion of an accredited Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowshipBoard-eligible or board-certified in Neonatal-Perinatal MedicineAbility to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensureDEA registration or eligibility Skills and Competencies Expertise in neonatal physiology and critical careStrong clinical judgment and decision-making skillsAbility to manage high-acuity neonatal patientsExcellent communication and family counseling skillsCommitment to evidence-based, patient-centered care Work Environment Neonatal intensive care units, delivery rooms, and newborn nurseriesSchedule may include day, night, weekend, and on-call coverage depending on program structure Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout clinical environmentsManual dexterity for neonatal procedures and resuscitationVisual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient monitoring and clinical assessment
