Transmission Assembler - 1st shift

We are currently looking to fill a position for Transmission Assembler - 1st shift.Position SummaryResponsible for assembling complete transmissions and transmission subassemblies in a high-mix manufacturing environment. Performs precision mechanical assembly, measurement, inspection, and functional testing in accordance with work instructions, drawings, torque/angle specifications, and quality requirements while meeting safety, delivery, and productivity expectations.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssemble transmissions and subassemblies (e.g., geartrain, shafts, bearings, clutch packs, pumps, housings/covers) using fixtures, presses, and appropriate hand/power tools.Set up and use torque wrenches/torque tools (including torque-angle when required); verify fastener type, torque values, and sequence per specification.Install seals, gaskets, O-rings, snap rings, and retaining hardware; apply sealants/adhesives and lubricants per work instructions.Measure and verify critical characteristics using calipers, micrometers, indicators, gauges, and specialty fixtures.Follow standardized work instructions.Maintain cleanliness and contamination control to prevent debris-related failures.Perform in-process inspections and record results for traceability as required.Conduct functional checks and basic testing as required and document outcomes.Identify nonconforming parts/conditions, stop and escalate issues, and support containment/corrective actions in coordination with Quality/Engineering.Maintain a clean and organized workstation using 5S; support continuous improvement, safety initiatives, and cross-training.Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED (or equivalent experience).Ability to read and interpret work instructions and basic engineering drawings/blueprints.Mechanical aptitude and ability to use common hand tools and measuring devices.Ability to work independently and as part of a team; dependable attendance and punctuality.Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.Preferred Qualifications3+ years of experience assembling transmissions, drivetrains, powertrain products, or similar precision mechanical assemblies.Experience with presses, bearing installation, snap rings, seal installation, and torque/angle tooling; ability to troubleshoot torque/fit issues.Proficiency with precision measurement (calipers, micrometers, indicators).Experience working in a high-mix/low-volume environment; able to shift between models and follow revision-controlled documentation.Lean/5S familiarity and participation in continuous improvement or problem-solving activities (Kaizen, etc.).Physical Requirements / Work EnvironmentAbility to stand/walk for extended periods during the shift.Frequent bending, reaching, grasping, and use of hand/finger dexterity.Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 lbs unassisted (heavier items with assistance or lifting devices).Ability to distinguish colors/markings and visually inspect small parts and assemblies.Work performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to moving equipment, noise, and oils/coolants; required PPE must be worn.
