Electro-Mechanical Technician

Position Purpose Constructs, maintains, and tests electrical systems and components. Uses measuring and diagnostic tools to test and modify electronic parts. Supports engineering in new builds and maintains the needs of existing equipment. Ensures systems and components meet established specifications. Requires enrollment in an apprenticeship and/or formal training program in the area of specialty. Position Summary The Electro-Mechanical Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and electronic systems and equipment. This role ensures all work complies with applicable electrical codes, safety regulations, and quality standards while supporting both new system builds and ongoing operational needs.Key Responsibilities Installation & Maintenance Install, repair, and maintain electrical and electronic systems, equipment, and components.Ensure compliance with electrical codes and safety standards.Perform routine preventive maintenance to reduce downtime and extend equipment life. Troubleshooting & Repair Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and electronic malfunctions.Use testing equipment and diagnostic tools to efficiently identify and resolve issues. Testing & Calibration Conduct functional tests to ensure systems operate in accordance with specifications.Calibrate and adjust components to meet required performance standards.Perform quality checks to verify installations meet established requirements. Technical Documentation Interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.Follow technical documentation to perform accurate installations and repairs.Maintain detailed records of maintenance, repairs, and system modifications. Wiring & Equipment Operation Install and connect wiring, cables, and electrical components in accordance with specifications.Organize and secure wiring to ensure safety and prevent damage.Operate and maintain specialized tools and equipment used in electrical and electronic work. Safety Compliance Adhere strictly to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) Preventative Maintenance Perform routine preventative maintenance on electrical and electronic systems.Identify and address potential issues before they lead to malfunctions. Documentation Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.Document changes, upgrades, and modifications to electrical and electronic systems. Collaboration & Support Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to address complex issues.Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors. Upgrades and Modifications Participate in planning and executing upgrades and modifications to electrical and electronic systems.Implement improvements to enhance system performance. Quality Control Conduct quality checks to verify that electrical and electronic installations meet established standards.Ensure compliance with quality assurance procedures. Continuing Education Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes.Pursue additional training or certifications to enhance skills and knowledge. Environmental Responsibility Handle and dispose of electronic waste in an environmentally responsible manner.Follow guidelines for the safe disposal of hazardous materials.Computer & Technical SkillsProficiency in using computers for daily work activities, including file management and standard business applications.Ability to effectively use email systems to communicate with team members and respond to work-related inquiries in a timely manner.Experience with work order management systems, including receiving, updating, and closing maintenance tasks.Working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for scheduling preventive maintenance, tracking asset history, and managing inventory.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word (document creation), Excel (data tracking and analysis), and PowerPoint (presentations).Ability to use mobile devices (smartphones or tablets) to access job information, communicate, and utilize maintenance-related applications.Skill in locating and utilizing online resources to support troubleshooting, research, and continuous learning.Familiarity with diagnostic and troubleshooting software used in equipment maintenance, including systems related to HVAC and industrial machinery.Understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS) software for monitoring and controlling facility systems such as HVAC, lighting, and energy management.Basic knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software for interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and layouts.Proficiency in using equipment-specific diagnostic tools and software for troubleshooting and repair.Ability to access, interpret, and update digital technical documentation, including manuals, schematics, and maintenance procedures.Awareness of cybersecurity best practices, including safe use of systems and protection of sensitive data.Preferred Education Education & Certification Requirements Associate degree or technical certificate in:Electro-Mechanical TechnologyMechatronicsElectrical Engineering TechnologyIndustrial Maintenance TechnologyHigh-level mechanical training or documented hands-on experience is critical.Apprenticeship:Apprentice Level: Focus on mechanical skill-building under supervision and supporting electrical tasks.Journeyman Level: Advanced mechanical competency; able to troubleshoot independently; electrical skills sufficient to support equipment operation.Fully trained and able to work independently on mechanical and electrical systems.Cadence is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
