Director of Preconstruction

Director of Preconstruction The Director of Preconstruction is responsible for leading and overseeing all preconstruction staff and activities, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with company strategy and client expectations. This role drives execution, maintains technical integrity, and contributes to the seamless integration between business development, estimating, and operations. The Director serves as the operational leader of the preconstruction team, focused on delivering competitive, risk-aware proposals and preparing projects for successful execution. Key Responsibilities Lead, manage, and develop all preconstruction and estimating personnel  Deliver accurate, competitive, and risk-aware budgets and proposals  Execute pursuit strategies in alignment with direction set by the Chief Revenue Officer  Plan and manage preconstruction workload, staffing, and resource allocation  Establish and maintain estimating standards, tools, and best practices  Lead design-assist efforts, budget validation, and scope definition  Oversee and ensure quality of Preconstruction-to-Operations handoff processes  Coach, mentor, hire, and develop preconstruction team members  Support client presentations, interviews, and relationship-building efforts as needed  Conduct employee performance reviews and regular 1:1 meetings  Approve or reject bid allowances where suppliers are not identified at proposal stage   Decision Making Authority  This role operates under the principle that the CRO owns strategy and pricing intent, while the Director of Preconstruction owns execution and technical integrity. Key decision responsibilities include: Developing and executing estimates, assumptions, and scope definitions  Leading risk identification and supporting buy-out planning  Managing preconstruction staffing and team development  Overseeing final proposal preparation and submission (in coordination with CRO)  Approving Preconstruction-to-Operations handoff readiness   Success Metrics Win rate on targeted pursuits  Margin accuracy compared to final project budgets  Post-award budget variance  Quality and effectiveness of Operations handoffs  Retention, engagement, and performance of preconstruction staff  Satisfaction of internal partners (Business Development and Operations)  Achievement of established preconstruction KPIs  Education and Experience 10+ years of experience in preconstruction and/or estimating  Proven leadership and team management experience  Strong understanding of construction delivery methods (e.g., CMAR, Design-Build, GMP)  Excellent communication skills and sound professional judgment  High credibility with clients and trade partners  Compensation and Benefits Salaried/Exempt Position Company vehicle or vehicle allowance Position comes with health, dental, vision, and life insurance as well as short term disability insurance. Time off that begins accruing immediately. Up to a 4% 401K match. Salary Range: $148,000-$182,000 Workplace Policies and Agreements FSLA Status - Salaried/Exempt Current Driver’s License is required. UA/7 Year Background Check is required upon acceptance.  Schedule - M-F Work Location - In Office, In Person
