Protection & Controls Settings Engineer
SEnergy is seeking a highly skilled Protection & Controls Settings Engineer to develop, review, and implement protective relay settings for transmission and distribution substations.The ideal candidate will have strong power system short-circuit modeling and coordination experience and a deep understanding of relay protection philosophies. Minimum 5 years of direct Protection & Controls settings experience in the power industry is required.The position is located at our Boerne office and may require some overnight travel to project sites.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform protective relaying analysis such as short-circuit modelling, protection coordination, PT and CT sizing determination, and arc flash studiesDevelop relay settings and setting reports for transmission, distribution, and generation substation equipmentEnsure compliance with NERC, IEEE, and utility standardsMaintain accurate documentation of settings files, settings report, and coordination studiesAnalyze system disturbances, review and validate protection performanceProvide remote and/or on-site support for relay testing & commissioningEnsure protection and controls settings deliverables meet the schedule and scope requirements of the contract and communicate with the project manager any risksReview relay one-line and schematic drawingsReview vendor documentationDevelop technical equipment specificationsProvide specialized technical input for protection and control designParticipate in development of technical proposals and provide estimates for the engineering budgetMaintain and continuously adopt new technical skills and knowledgePerform quality control review of work developed by other team membersPerforms other duties as assignedREQUIREMENTS:EDUCATION :Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited programLicensed Professional Engineer (PE) within United States (State of Texas preferred) and ability to obtain additional PE licenses if neededEXPERIENCE:Minimum 5 years of direct Protection & Controls settings experience in the power industryExperience with SEL, Eaton, Beckwith, or similar protective relaysAdditional years of experience in conceptual engineering and substation design is preferredSKILLS:Able to clearly articulate and communicate (verbal, writing) in English with global stakeholdersPossess strong analytical and technical problem-solving skillsAble to work independently as necessary, as well as accomplish common objectives in a team settingProcesses exceptional computer skills, with emphasis in ASPEN OneLiner, ETAP , and MathCADStrong understanding of transmission and substation protection schemesStrong time management, organization, and multi-tasking skillsPHYSICAL:This position requires the ability to listen and hear, good eyesight, sitting, standing, walking, and use of hands and armsBENEFITS:100% Employer paid health insurance and 50% for first dependent200% 401(k) match up to 4.5%Employer paid STD, LTD and Life InsuranceDental, Vision, Life and Supplemental offeredPaid HolidaysStarting at 3-week PTO with rolloverAnnual Employer Contribution to Health Savings AccountAnnual Profit-Sharing Bonus based on PerformancePowered by JazzHR
