This role is ideal for someone looking to build a career (or build on to a career) in accounting while gaining hands-on experience with a variety of clients and industries. The Accounting Associate will support day-to-day financial operations, maintain accurate records, assist with payroll tasks, and prepare income tax returns. This is a full-time, on-site role for located in St. Marys, GA. However, the firm had the technological ability to allow employees to work remotely as needed. Bookkeeping & Accounting FunctionsAccurately record financial transactions, including deposits, checks, and ACH activity, into accounting software such as QuickBooks, QuickBooks Online, and Accounting CSPerform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial dataMaintain organized and up-to-date financial records for multiple clientsAssist with preparation and filing of monthly sales tax returnsIdentify discrepancies and communicate issues to senior staff for resolutionSupport general ledger maintenance and basic financial reportingPayroll Support DutiesReview and verify client-submitted timesheets for accuracy and completenessInput hourly and salary data into payroll processing systemsProcess payroll and ensure timely delivery of paychecks or direct depositsGenerate payroll reports and maintain electronic documentationCoordinate payroll delivery (client pickup or secure electronic distribution)Process payroll tax deposits in accordance with client-specific schedulesAssist with preparation and filing of quarterly payroll tax returnsSupport year-end payroll activities, including W-2 and 1099 preparationAssist with Workers’ Compensation audits, including compiling data and interfacing with insurance platformsIncome Tax Return Preparation Duties (Seasonal)Collect, organize, and review client tax documents; identify and follow up on missing informationPrepare individual (Form 1040) and basic state income tax returnsAssist with simple business returns (Schedule C, basic S-corp and partnership returns)Accurately input and reconcile tax data within tax softwarePerform self-review for accuracy; resolve basic diagnostics and e-file errorsPrepare and maintain supporting workpapers and documentationCommunicate with clients to request information and provide status updatesAssist with e-filing, monitor acceptance/rejections, and ensure timely completionQualificationsAssociate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)Basic understanding of accounting principles and bookkeeping practicesExcellent problem-solving skills and attention to detailAbility to effectively communicate with clients and team membersFamiliarity with Microsoft Excel and WordExperience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software is a plusExposure to payroll processing is preferred but not requiredSkills & CompetenciesStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlinesEffective written and verbal communication skillsHigh level of accuracy and integrity when handling financial dataWillingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environmentPreferred (Not Required)Prior internship or entry-level experience in bookkeeping or accountingExperience working in an accounting firm or with multiple clientsFamiliarity with payroll systems and compliance requirements
