About the Role:
The company is seeking a Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain the backend systems that power its platform. You will work on problems spanning computational expression generation, data modeling, and complex backend architecture, with the autonomy to make important technical decisions. The ideal candidate combines strong backend engineering experience with a product-focused mindset and practical knowledge of AI-assisted development tools. You should be comfortable working independently, navigating ambiguity, and balancing rapid iteration with code quality, testing, and thoughtful system design.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, build, and maintain complex backend systems that support the company's platform.
Develop backend solutions for computational expression generation and data modeling.
Use Python to build and maintain backend services where appropriate.
Design and manage data models using PostgreSQL.Integrate AI tools and coding assistants into everyday engineering workflows.
Make technical decisions that support product requirements and long-term system quality.
Apply sound engineering practices, including testing, iterative development, and maintainable system design.
Communicate technical decisions and progress clearly in a remote, asynchronous work environment.
Work independently on complex problems with minimal guidance.
Required Qualifications:
At least 7 years of production software engineering experience, preferably in a complex SaaS environment.
Demonstrated experience designing, building, and maintaining complex backend systems, ideally using Python.
Strong experience with PostgreSQL and data modeling.
Practical experience integrating AI tools and coding assistants, such as Cursor or Windsurf, into development workflows.
Excellent technical communication skills, particularly in remote and asynchronous teams.
A pragmatic approach to engineering that values iteration, code quality, testing, and thoughtful system design.
Ability to work effectively with ambiguity and limited supervision.
Strong familiarity with AI tools and their application in software development.
Compensation and Benefits:
Annual Base Salary: $175,000–$210,000.Meaningful equity.
