Power Electronics Engineer

We continually develop and apply innovative motion control technology to meet our clients ultra-critical, environmentally-challenging and high power-density requirements.We are seeking an experienced Power Electronics Engineer responsible for leading the development and application of high-power, high-efficiency motor controls, drives, and other power conversion systems.Responsibilities:· Apply specific expertise to the development of low to high power motor controls, drives, active front end rectifiers, other power conversion and supporting components· Expert understanding and application of three-phase brushless motors and controls models, electrical, magnetic, and mechanical, including dynamic flux estimation and transformations between stationary and rotating reference frames· High-frequency space-vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) and other advanced techniques for efficient sinusoidal commutation, minimizing torque-ripple and excess harmonics· Efficient implementation of motor controllers with embedded software/firmware in microcontrollers/DSP, using low-level assembly language and C language, including implementation of digital filters and phase-locked-loops (PLL)Produces significant portions of individual project electrical and control system designs as a lead at the system or sub-system level.· Create power electronics design and component selection, including high-power IGBTs and MOSFETs, SiC, and associated drive, level-shifting, filtering, isolation, switching, sensing, and common-mode effects· Ability to given incomplete, high-level requirements for a system or subsystem of moderate complexity, generate proper designs and work to complete tasking with latitude to make decisions under minimal oversight - individually and in a teamwork environment· Prepare detailed analysis, modeling, and simulation of motors and motor controls in time domain, frequency domain, continuous and discrete.· Accurately create and read detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, cable drawings, system cabling and block diagrams· Exercise solid engineering judgement, creativity, and initiative with attention to detail consistently throughout work product, with attention to the "system" perspective· Prepare and participate in regular design reviews· Work closely in concert with mechanical, electrical, software, and software engineers, as well as other cooperative disciplines, to solve problems and constructively architect a working system· May supervise the work of technicians and production personnel, while being accountable for results, working with considerable autonomy, but also knowing when to ask for assistance· May be expected to lead, supervise, and mentor a junior electrical engineer working on project objectivesJob Qualifications:· Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Electrical/Electronic/Embedded Engineering with an emphasis on Power Conversion and Motor control.· Minimum 8+ years practical technical experience with focus and demonstrated expertise in custom-made (high-power) motor controls and other power conversion subsystems development, analysis, simulation, design, control, programming, layout, construction, troubleshooting, and testing· Experience with Motor design and construction (housing, bearings, seals, stator, rotor, windings) is highly desirable· Ability to create compact, optimal layout of motor control and drive circuitry (low- and high-power sections) on printed circuit boards for minimal noise, EMI/EMC and heatsinking· Familiar with low-medium voltage, single- and 3-phase power systems (120V, 240V, 480V, 900V, etc.)· Proficiency with advanced Computer Aided Design (CAD), Simulation, and Analysis software packages such as Altium Designer, LT SPICE, SolidWorks, Mathcad, MATLAB, etc.· Good practical technician skills (assembly, wiring, soldering, cabling, etc.)· Possess sensorless/sensored commutation/rotor angle sensing techniques· Good written and oral communications skills, including ability to effectively document, convey, and present engineering concepts and products to team members and customers· Ability to travel on occasion sometimes without extensive noticeWe offer the ideal candidate the opportunity to be part of a progressive organization and provide a competitive compensation and benefits package.
