Embedded Software Engineer – C++ / Linux

Job DescriptionCaterpillar is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to support the Detect Application team within the Robotics division. This engineer will work on safety detection technologies used in mining and autonomous machinery, contributing to the design, development, integration, and testing of embedded software features on electronic controls. The role involves developing embedded software solutions in a Linux environment, troubleshooting issues, creating validation plans, and collaborating with global software, systems, machine, and validation engineering teams in an Agile environment.Key SkillsDesign, develop, integrate, and test embedded software features using C++ in Linux environmentsPerform software design, requirements decomposition, code reviews, debugging, and issue triageWork with Git, debuggers, compilers, C Test, and G Test frameworksDevelop system-level features and work with communication protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, or similar datalinksRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field6-7+ years of embedded software engineering experience; Master’s degree considered with 5+ years of industry experienceStrong programming skills in C/C++Experience with Linux development environmentsExperience developing validation plans and supporting testing activitiesAbility to collaborate with global software, systems, machine, and validation engineering teamsExperience working in an Agile environment, including sprint ceremonies and daily standupsAdditional SkillsExperience with GStreamerExperience with robotics, autonomy, or autonomous systemsFamiliarity with detection and sensor technologiesExperience developing safety-critical or machine control softwareStrong software design and analytical skillsAbility to communicate technical positions effectively without confrontationConcise written communicationStrong collaboration and interpersonal skillsAbility to work successfully within a global, culturally diverse teamInterview: Technical assessment and live coding interview.
