Special Olympics Instructor/Coach Misericordia Heart of Mercy is a home to over 600 children and adults with mild to profound developmental disabilities. Misericordia is currently hiring for a skilled Special Olympics Instructor/Coach. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a creative, enthusiastic team dedicated to providing various recreation programs for our residents. The Special Olympics Instructor/Coach will plan and facilitate quality, person-centered physical activity programs in Wellness & Fitness/Special Olympics classes while adapting them to meet the needs of all ability levels. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Physical Education or experience teaching and coaching sports/Recreation activities. One year or more experience working with persons with Intellectual & physical disabilities Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. Ability to work with team members as well as volunteers in planning on campus & community special events. Special Olympics planning and coaching experience in a variety of sports. In addition to Special Olympics, plan & facilitate quality, person-centered leisure activity programs in Music, Creative arts, Wellness & Fitness while adapting them to meet the needs of all ability levels. Demonstrate strong leadership skills; provide direct care staff with instruction on Active Treatment techniques and activities during regularly scheduled programming. Must be able to work evenings and weekends {flexible hours}. Good time management skills and ability to work independently.
