Immediate Opportunities: Diesel Technician/Mechanic II in Ashland, VA Minimum 3 years of practical vehicle maintenance experience ​ Overview As a Diesel Technician/Mechanic II at Penske, you will perform preventative maintenance and repairs on a modern, well-maintained fleet. This role requires independent work, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety and reliability. You will also support team developm ent by informally mentoring less experienced technicians while continuing to build your own skills. Key Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance on trucks and trailers with minimal supervision Diagnose and repair major components, including engines, transmissions, differentials, turbochargers, and fuel systems Conduct road tests to identify and resolve mechanical issues Ensure all vehicles are safe, compliant, and customer-ready Maintain a clean and safe work environment Use Penske systems to document, track, and complete repairs, including basic diagnostics Participate in ongoing technical training and development Complete additional tasks and projects as assigned Why Join Penske Competitive starting salary Shift premiums: 2nd shift: $3/hour 3rd shift: $4/hour Weekend: $2/hour Career stability with growth opportunities Comprehensive benefits package, including generous paid time off Ongoing training through Penske’s certified Technician Certification Program Exposure to a wide range of OEM equipment (not limited to a single manufacturer) Advanced vehicle maintenance technology Clean, well-equipped facilities with major shop tools provided Flexible scheduling and location options Qualifications Minimum 3 years of practical vehicle maintenance experience High school diploma or equivalent (preferred) Vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair (preferred) Experience diagnosing and repairing major components (engines, transmissions, differentials) OEM training, ASE certification, and EPA 608/609 certifications (preferred) Proficiency with diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools Valid driver’s license Strong problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment Willingness to work in non-climate-controlled environments Basic computer skills Ability to comply with all Penske, DOT, and OSHA safety standards and procedures Reliable attendance Regulatory Requirements Must maintain a valid driver qualification file (including MVR checks, DOT physical, and safety history) CDL holders must complete DOT drug screening and FMCSA Clearinghouse review Ability to pass background and drug screening Willingness to travel within the district as needed Work Conditions and Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and sitting for extended periods Regular use of hands for tools and equipment operation Ability to work at heights using ladders or platforms Ability to work in all weather conditions Must be able to see and hear clearly to maintain safety in a high-traffic work environment Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs occasionally Ability to push and pull heavy equipment, including truck tires exceeding 100 lbs
