Staten Island ZooRelief Ambassador Animal KeeperThe Relief Ambassador Animal Keeper is responsible for the care of the ambassador animals at the Staten Island Zoo when the full-time Ambassador Animal Keeper is off. This includes but is not limited to daily husbandry, training, and enrichment of reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, birds, and invertebrates. This individual should have strong communication skills to relay important information to the full-time keeper.Part time, 21 hour a week position Sundays, Mondays, and TuesdaysAs needed if full-time keeper is offDescription of Duties:* Daily husbandry of ambassador animal collection* Perform animal behavior training, including following shaping plans* Create and distribute enrichment to all animals on a fixed schedule set by the enrichment committee* Follow up to date SOPs for all ambassador animals, including temperature range, UV range, daylight hours, weight range, daily husbandry tasks, etc.* Keep accurate and detailed records for husbandry, training, and enrichment, using written logs and database software including ZIMS* Administer medicine under guidance of the veterinarian* Observe and report on the physical and behavioral conditions of the animals, including close monitoring of any geriatric animals* Prepare diets as necessary* Maintain cleanliness and organization of keeper and animal spaces, including areas surrounding outdoor habitats* Additional tasks as needed in support of the Education DepartmentSkills:* Strong computer and data management skills* Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects; time management skills and flexibility a must* Able to adapt to new situations and experiences* Ability to work well with a diverse group of staff and volunteers, as well as independently* Excellent interpersonal and organizational skillsAdditional Qualifications:* Successful completion of a background check* Ability to work outdoors under various weather conditions* Valid state driver's license* Ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds* Negative TB test* Covid-19 VaccinationExperience RequiredBachelor's Degree in biology, zoology, animal science, or a related field Animal husbandry experience in a professional settingSalary$22 per hourHow to ApplyPlease submit a resume and cover letter to:Jessica HartmannDirector of Education, Staten Island Zoojhartmann@statenislandzoo.orgONLY QUALIFIED APPLICANTS WILL BE CONTACTEDThe Staten Island Zoo is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, religion, age, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship status, disability, marital status, veteran status, or any other protected status under applicable law.Staten Island Zoo614 BroadwayStaten Island, NY 10310Phone: 718-442-3100Visit our website@statenislandzooLike us on Facebook
