Job Title : Avionics System EngineerLocation : Cedar Rapids, IAClient : ActalentJob SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Avionics Systems Engineer to support the development, integration, verification, and validation of advanced avionics systems. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) at the system level and a strong understanding of aircraft systems, subsystems, requirements engineering, system integration, and requirements-based testing.The engineer will collaborate closely with systems, software, integration, and test teams to develop robust avionics solutions, troubleshoot system issues, and ensure implementations satisfy applicable system requirements and aerospace standards.Key ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, software, integration, and test engineers to develop and deliver avionics system solutions.Support the development, analysis, refinement, and management of system requirements and interfaces.Perform design and requirements development activities throughout the system development lifecycle.Support verification planning and development of test procedures to demonstrate compliance with system requirements.Execute requirements-based, scenario-based, robustness, Ad-Hoc, and unintended function/behavior testing in laboratory environments.Develop, maintain, and execute automated and manual test scripts.Perform on-site system testing and troubleshooting during formal development and verification phases.Analyze test results, identify system-level issues, and support root-cause investigation and resolution.Document and report issues identified during development and testing cycles.Provide internal technical status updates and communicate directly with OEM customers when required.Assist with system integration, troubleshooting, and issue resolution in laboratory and development environments.Participate in technical reviews of requirements, system designs, test procedures, and other engineering artifacts.Incorporate technical review feedback into requirements, designs, test procedures, and other assigned engineering deliverables.Support effective utilization of test assets and maintain schedule flexibility during formal testing and verification activities.Required QualificationsHands-on experience with Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) at the system level.Strong understanding of avionics, aircraft systems, and aircraft subsystems.Experience with requirements development, verification, validation, system testing, or model-based engineering concepts.Experience developing and executing system-level test scripts and test procedures.Ability to troubleshoot complex system issues and communicate technical findings effectively.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills.Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional engineering environment.Willingness to work on-site in laboratory environments with schedule flexibility during formal test phases.Experience with one or more engineering tools/languages such as Python, MATLAB/Simulink, Cameo, or similar tools is a plus.Preferred QualificationsExperience supporting complete avionics development lifecycles, from requirements through integration, verification, and certification.Familiarity with avionics certification processes and lifecycle activities.Experience working within aerospace regulatory and certification environments involving:DO-254 – Airborne Electronic HardwareDO-160 – Environmental Conditions and Test ProceduresDO-178B/C – Airborne SoftwareDO-297 – Integrated Modular AvionicsARP4754A – Guidelines for Development of Civil Aircraft and SystemsFAA, TCCA, and EASA certification standards and processesCoursework, academic projects, or professional experience in systems engineering, embedded systems, software development, aerospace engineering, or controls.Experience participating in technical design reviews, requirements reviews, troubleshooting activities, and formal test execution.
