Newberry Community School is seeking a Paraprofessional, ESE to support teachers in delivering instruction, managing classroom behavior, and fostering a positive learning environment for students with exceptional needs. This role assists with instructional activities, provides student supervision, and helps address the academic, social, and behavioral needs of students while maintaining a safe and organized classroom setting.Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GEDCompletion of a minimum of 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution, or passing score on an accepted ParaPro Assessment, requiredTwo (2) years of successful experience working with students preferred, with experience in special education students, preferredKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to relate to and work with students and adults in a positive mannerAbility to communicate effectively both orally and in writingEnglish and mathematics skillsAbility to follow written and verbal instructions without close supervisionKnowledge of technology and ability to apply it to assigned areas of responsibilityAbility to perform clerical tasksAbility to plan and organizeKnowledge of the operation of office and audio-visual equipmentAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and administratorsEssential Duties & ResponsibilitiesAssist with specialized instruction and training for exceptional student education studentsAssist teachers in preparing materials and equipment for instruction, including copying, collating, and organizing materialsSupport students with behavioral and social/emotional needs as directedReview lesson plans and anticipate needed supplies and materialsFacilitate the use of assistive technologyLead small group activities as planned by the teacher in an engaging learning environmentAssist with student supervision in classrooms, on buses, during lunch, recess, and other school activitiesEscort students to designated areas such as the media center or clinicPerform approved health procedures after proper training, as directed by the Health Services SupervisorAssist with student screening and assessment activitiesSupport teachers in adapting curriculum to meet student needsMaintain a clean and orderly classroom environmentManage computer-assisted instructionProvide general student supervision as assignedAssist in maintaining the security of records, materials, and equipmentSupport enforcement of classroom rules and maintenance of recordsAssist in monitoring student progress, including test proctoring, grading, and maintaining confidential recordsProvide instructional support as directed by the teacherPerform assigned clerical and basic bookkeeping dutiesFollow all applicable safety standardsAttend staff meetings and required trainingsCommunicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and the public using good judgment and professionalismIdentify potential issues or areas for improvement and keep supervisors informedSupport the school’s goals and prioritiesFollow attendance, punctuality, and dress code expectationsMaintain confidentiality of all school and workplace mattersManage time efficiently and effectivelyModel and uphold high ethical standardsPerform other duties as assignedPhysical RequirementsAbility to perform heavy work, including exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds as needed to move objectsTerms of EmploymentSalary and benefits are provided in accordance with the Board’s approved salary schedule. 10-month positionEqual Employment Opportunity StatementThe organization is an Equal Opportunity Employer and prohibits discrimination or harassment based on race, color, religion, sex, pregnancy, national origin, age, disability, marital status, genetic information, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other legally protected characteristic.
