Weld Quality Technician

STS Technical Services is hiring a Weld Quality Technician in West Point, Mississippi, to support in-process weld inspection, quality documentation and compliance within a manufacturing environment.This role is responsible for inspecting welds against customer specifications and company quality requirements, documenting inspection results and monitoring repairs of non-conforming welds. The ideal candidate has experience reading weld drawings, interpreting welding symbols and using standard weld inspection tools.Position OverviewThe Weld Quality Technician performs in-process inspections to verify weld quality, dimensional requirements and compliance with applicable customer and AWS acceptance criteria.This position also reviews welding and NDT documentation, monitors welder qualification testing, supports repair and rework inspections and maintains accurate quality records throughout the manufacturing process.ResponsibilitiesReview Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)Review Procedure Qualification Records (PQR)Review Welder Qualification Records (WPQR)Review Non-Destructive Testing final test reportsComplete in-process inspection recordsMonitor and approve in-process repairs of non-conforming weldsVerify required NDT results are properly documented on inspection recordsConfirm welds meet customer and/or AWS acceptance criteriaConfirm all required parts are present and properly oriented according to detailed drawingsDocument identified defects on inspection logsRe-inspect repaired or reworked welds following initial inspectionMonitor welder qualification testingDevelop visual inspection proceduresProvide NDT inspection planning schedulesProvide training to welders and inspectors in accordance with established repair proceduresTrack weld defect data and report findings to the Quality Assurance ManagerVerify compliance with safety requirementsReview contract requirements and vendor contract compliancePerform other duties as assignedQualificationsAbility to read and interpret welding symbols on weld drawingsProficiency using weld inspection tools including weld gauges, NDT equipment and micrometersAt least two years of experience reviewing and interpreting structural steel plans, working drawings and technical specificationsAbility to clearly communicate welding issues and quality concerns to team members and supervisorsMust qualify as a U.S. PersonPreferred QualificationsCurrent or previous Certified Welding Inspector certification in accordance with AWS QC1Canadian Welding Bureau Level II certificationCertificate from a combination welding programAssociate degreeNDT Level II certification in Magnetic Particle Testing and/or Penetrant TestingWeld inspection experience involving military vehiclesPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift up to 50 pounds regularlyAbility to work in extreme cold and hot temperaturesAbility to squat and kneelAbility to push and pullAbility to stand for extended periodsAbout STS Technical ServicesSTS Technical Services is a Top 100 Staffing Firm that partners with leading aerospace, manufacturing, defense and industrial organizations across the United States.
