Job Description /SummaryWe currently have a lot of work in the Hampton Roads, VA area and are looking for experience Paving Roller Operators to join our company. This is a permanent role. If you are interested, please apply and we will reach out right away!Position Summary:The Paving Roller Operator is responsible for operating compaction equipment to achieve proper density and smoothness of asphalt surfaces on heavy civil and highway construction projects. This role works closely with paving crews to ensure quality, safety, and production goals are met.Key Responsibilities:Operate steel drum and pneumatic rollers to compact asphalt to specified density and finish standardsFollow rolling patterns and procedures as directed by the foreman or superintendentCoordinate with paving crew, screed operators, and truck drivers to maintain efficient workflowMonitor mat temperature, thickness, and compaction to ensure compliance with project specificationsPerform breakdown, intermediate, and finish rolling as requiredConduct daily equipment inspections, including fluid levels, drums, and safety systemsIdentify and report equipment issues or maintenance needs promptlyMaintain consistent rolling speed and vibration settings based on material and conditionsAdhere to all safety regulations, including traffic control and work zone safety standardsAssist with general labor duties when needed to support the crewMinimum Qualifications:2+ years of experience operating rollers in asphalt paving, preferably on highway or heavy civil projectsStrong understanding of asphalt compaction techniques and rolling patternsAbility to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding outdoor environmentWillingness to work extended hours, including nights and weekends as neededPreferred Qualifications:Experience on DOT or federally funded roadway projectsFamiliarity with density testing requirements and quality control processesExperience operating multiple types of compaction equipmentKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Strong attention to detail to ensure smooth and uniform pavement surfacesGood communication skills and ability to work as part of a teamMechanical aptitude for basic equipment troubleshootingAwareness of job site safety hazards and safe operating practicesAbility to adapt to changing site conditions and weather impactsPhysical Requirements:Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipmentFrequent climbing on and off machineryAbility to lift up to 50 lbs occasionallyTolerance for working in heat, cold, dust, and noise typical of construction sitesBenefitsHealth and Dental Insurance401K ProgramProfit SharingPaid HolidaysPaid LeaveFree Life InsuranceCurtis Contracting, Inc.
