Summer Camp Sailing Instructor

About us: Community Sailing New Orleans (CSNO) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) that eliminates the economic and physical barriers to sailing on Lake Pontchartrain. Our goal is to build an inclusive environment where all feel welcome to enjoy the water! We are looking for experienced sailing instructors to help our summer campers build confidence, skills, and lifelong memories. Our sailing instructors will be responsible for teaching sailing fundamentals to campers of varying skill levels between the ages of 8 -16, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment on the water. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Assist with daily program setup, fleet maintenance, and the upkeep of a clean and safe facility. - Provide instruction on sailing techniques, boat handling, and water safety, tailored to various skill levels. - Follow CSNO lesson plans and curriculums. - Cultivate an inclusive atmosphere that promotes CSNO’s mission and values. - Maintain clear and effective communication with students, parents, staff, and volunteers to ensure smooth program operations. - Practice safe and prudent practices with respect to working with participants, the fleet, and facilities. - Other duties and responsibilities as directed by the supervisor as needed. Job Requirements and Qualifications: - Hold an Active Safesport certification in good standing at a minimum. - Minimum of one year of sailing experience. - Ability to proficiently, confidently, and independently sail either a dinghy or keelboat. - Prior experience as a sailing instructor preferred. - Ability to work proactively and collaboratively with others. - Promote a positive and encouraging sailing environment that reflects CSNO’s culture. - Satisfactory completion of background and reference checks. Work Environment and Physical Requirements - Regular work outdoors with exposure to water, and varying temperatures, weather conditions, and noises. - Extensive standing, walking, lifting, pushing, and pulling movements required. - Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as required. Pay: $14.00 - $22.00 per hour Work Location: In person
