Job Summary:
The Payroll Specialist will perform daily payroll department operations ensuring payroll is processed on time, accurately and in compliance with government regulations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Enters, maintains, and/or processes information in the payroll system; information may include employees' hourly rates, salaries, commissions, bonuses or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholding, address changes, and other information.
Ensures proper processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other deductions.
Reconciles payroll to the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
Issues, or reissues, physical or replacement checks or direct deposits due to payroll errors or final discharge.
Generates records and processes federal and state payroll tax deposits and reports
Team player with willingness to assist other Finance team member when requested
Performs other duties as assigned within the Finance Department
Required Skills/Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, payroll taxes and internal controls
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll software eg. Paylocity, Paycor, ADP
High degree of professionalism and ability to secure and protect confidential information
Education and Experience:
Associates degree is preferred but will consider some postsecondary education as commensurate
Three years of experience in accounting with at least one year of experience in payroll preferred.
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) is a plus
