Technical Operations Engineer

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You will join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You will collaborate across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. Key Job ResponsibilitiesOperate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment, including generators, switchgears, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems. Troubleshoot facility‑level events inside internal SLAs. Perform limited maintenance tasks such as filter changes, HVAC preventive maintenance, rack power installs, rack PDU replacements, and rack ATS replacements. Provide support to Data Center Operations technicians. Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures. Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work. Work 12‑hour shifts on a rotating schedule (3‑, 4‑, or 5‑day workweeks, days or nights). Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment during routine rounds/log taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.). Utilize the internal CMMS to manage building workflows and spare‑part inventory. Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance. Respond to off‑hour emergency calls per the on‑call rotation for any of the region’s sites. Fully comply with all physical security procedures and policies. Drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities. Manipulate small wires and objects as required. Walk job sites on uneven terrain, work at heights, carry or move up to 39 pounds (or 40 pounds with group lifts), bend or twist into unusual positions, push or pull heavy objects, and work in noisy environments. Basic QualificationsMinimum of 2 years of relevant work experience. Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret with SCI eligibility or above. Preferred Qualifications4 or more years of data center engineering experience. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Knowledge of network design and layout, low‑voltage (copper/fiber) cabling. Experience in data center engineering. Ability to perform physical tasks throughout the day without becoming overly tired. Base salary range: $37.00 – $65.00 per hour (US, OH, Plain City).
