Executive Director, Program and Portfolio Management
Overview
As Executive Director, you will lead strategic planning, execution, and governance of MacroGenics’ development portfolio. You’ll coordinate cross-functional assessments to advance candidates from discovery through regulatory approval and commercialization. You’ll partner with research, clinical, regulatory, CMC, finance, and business development to align objectives and priorities. Your leadership will strengthen governance, enable high-quality decisions, and drive disciplined, value-focused execution across programs.

ResponsibilitiesLead cross-functional program teams through discovery, IND-enabling activities, clinical development, regulatory submission, and commercializationCreate and execute integrated development plans with timelines, milestones, budgets, resources, risks, and decision pointsCoordinate with functional leaders to align objectives and execution prioritiesEstablish integrated program and portfolio timelines, identify critical paths, interdependencies, risks, and mitigationsLead portfolio management activities including planning, scenario analysis, risk/issue management, and budget coordinationPrepare data-driven materials and recommendations for senior leadership, governance bodies, and Board of DirectorsEnsure transparency and disciplined decision-making across program teams and governance forumsDevelop and communicate program/portfolio goals, milestones, risks, and progress against plansIdentify and resolve cross-functional issues impacting scope, timelines, budget, quality, or alignmentMentor and develop the Program and Portfolio Management team, fostering accountability and continuous improvementChampion best practices, tools, dashboards, processes, and operating models for portfolio visibility and executionAct as strategic thought partner on portfolio prioritization, development strategy, and investment decisionsMaintain alliance governance and participate in joint steering committees and external partner interactionsPromote a collaborative, transparent, and solutions-oriented team culture in a dynamic biotech/pharma setting
Key requirements12+ years in biotech/pharma or healthcare consulting7+ years of people managementSignificant experience in program and portfolio management and drug development leadershipProven track record of managing complex development programs with integrated timelines and budgetsExperience in cross-functional drug development teams and regulatory interactionsExperience with formal portfolio governance and presenting to senior leadershipExperience mentoring program management professionalsExperience with oncology, immunology, biologics, or antibody-based therapeutics preferredExperience with external partners, CROs/CDMOs and alliance governance preferredDeep understanding of drug discovery and development processes including preclinical, IND, clinical, regulatory, CMC, safety, and commercializationStrong financial acumen and risk management abilitiesExecutive communication and stakeholder management skillsProficiency with program management tools and dashboardsleadership and people managementstrategic thinkingclear communicationSmartsheetMicrosoft OfficePowerPoint
