Manager, Legal Practice Technology and AI

Currently, we are looking for a Manager, Legal Practice Technology and AI in our Chicago or Detroit Office. In addition to our Detroit and Chicago Offices, we have offices in Grand Rapids, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Bloomfield Hills, Kalamazoo, and Washington D.C. JOB SUMMARY The Manager, Legal Practice Technology and AI, is responsible for managing the portfolio of practice tools, deploying technology and AI solutions and driving adoption to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of legal practice. This role partners closely with attorneys, practice groups, and clients to identify opportunities for AI and technology to streamline workflows, support legal decision-making, and improve client service. Additionally, this position plays a key role in the firm’s AI on Demand group, which undertakes practice- and client-related AI projects, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes. RESPONSIBILITIES Legal Practice Support & AI Strategy Collaborate with practice groups and practice innovation team to understand legal workflows and identify tool application. Be knowledgeable about firm tools and make recommendations to client matter teams on technology-driven solutions that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and client service. Monitor emerging AI and legal technology trends and assess applicability for the firm and the practices based on strategic plan and goals. Collaborate with Director of Legal Service Delivery and Senior Manager of AI and Innovation to execute on firm’s AI strategy and roadmap. Training, Implementation & Adoption Participate as a lead in the deployment and integration of AI tools across legal teams and practice areas. Collaborate with Senior Manager of AI and Innovation to pilot and manage practice tools. Play a key role in the management, coordination, and oversight of a multi-faceted AI training program, partnering with practice areas, practice leaders, individual attorneys, and clients to design and deliver multi-modal learning experiences that support responsible, practical, and value-driven use of AI Ensure smooth adoption of AI solutions while addressing workflow and change management needs. Monitor utilization of practice technology tools to identify training needs, opportunities to expand adoption of developed use cases and workflows, and user trends that inform purchasing decisions, training priorities, and commercial strategies. AI on Demand Be a key contributor in the management and growth of the AI on Demand program, responsible for handling practice and client AI requests. Work with other AI on Demand team members to prioritize, scope, and oversee AI projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives. Vendor & Stakeholder Management Serve as the primary liaison between legal teams and technology vendors. Manage users across portfolio of practice tools which includes log-ins, pre-requisite training courses and IT permission groups. Manage program to remove documents and data from tools that should not be stored in cloud platforms. Ensure AI tools align with practice needs, firm strategy, and operational standards working directly with users, leadership and documenting feedback Partner with, IT, BD, practice innovation and practice operations teams on solution integration. Performance & Compliance Track and measure outcomes of AI initiatives to demonstrate value and efficiency gains. Working with Senior Manager of AI Solutions ensure compliance with ethical, privacy, and security standards in AI usage. Continuously evaluate and optimize AI tools to meet evolving legal practice needs. QUALIFICATIONS JD or equivalent legal experience strongly preferred; advanced degrees or experience in technology, data science, or related fields are a plus. 3–5 years’ experience managing technology or innovation projects in a law firm or legal department environment. Strong understanding of AI technologies, including machine learning, NLP, and workflow automation, and their application in legal practice. Proven ability to translate complex technology concepts into practical solutions for attorneys. Excellent project management, communication, and change management skills. Ability to work collaboratively across multiple practice groups and levels of the organization. Strategic thinking with a focus on practical, lawyer-facing solutions. Innovative mindset with the ability to evaluate and implement emerging technologies. Strong interpersonal skills and credibility with legal professionals. Results-oriented and data-driven in approach to technology adoption. The anticipated annual pay range for this role is $135,000 to $150,000 (exempt). The actual offered pay rate will be determined based on various factors, including qualifications, experience, geographic location, education, external market data, and internal equity considerations.
