Mgr. Software Engineering

Overview As a Software Engineering Manager, you will lead a team delivering AI-powered payroll solutions within UKG’s Payroll product suite. You’ll balance hands-on technical leadership with people management to ensure reliable, scalable software. You drive architectural decisions, champion responsible AI practices, and guide cross-functional delivery. The role blends software engineering excellence with product impact, shaping how customers payroll at scale. You’ll be at the forefront of AI-enabled features that influence business outcomes. ResponsibilitiesProvide technical leadership for major projects and align with business goalsRemain hands-on in code and architecture discussions to uphold high standardsEnsure performance, scalability, and reliability in complex systemsEnforce engineering best practices (documentation, automation, security, responsible AI)Monitor service health and incidents, use telemetry for actionDesign reliable, observable AI systems including multi-agent orchestration and prompt engineering standardsPlay a pivotal role in the R.I.D.E. framework (Recommend, Inform, Decide, Execute)Understand CI/CD pipelines across build, test, and deploy phasesLead engineers at the intersection of software and AI with probabilistic/non-deterministic systemsFoster a collaborative, high-performance team culture and support professional developmentDrive DevOps adoption end-to-end from requirements to productionOversee delivery of AI-powered features with lifecycle management and risk mitigationCommunicate with stakeholders across levels and align with company strategy Key requirementsBachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience6+ years in software development with 2+ years in technical leadership and 2+ years in people management or relevant experienceProven track record delivering large-scale software projectsExperience leading SaaS/enterprise or highly available production systemsProficiency in one or more languages (C#, .NET, Python, Java, JavaScript)Strong software architecture and design pattern expertiseSolid cloud and DevOps understandingExcellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skillsExperience introducing AI-enabled features safely and compliantlystrong communicationleadership with a growth mindsetcross-functional collaborationC#, .NET, Python, Java, JavaScriptsoftware architecture and design patternscloud technologies and DevOps
