Operations Manager
Job Summary:We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Operations Manager to oversee our daily operations and drive strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in management, leadership, and business development, with a proven track record of improving processes and enhancing overall operational efficiency. This role is critical in ensuring that our organization meets its goals while maintaining high standards of quality and customer satisfaction. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for assessing and determining the costs associated with earthwork and excavation projects, ensuring profitability and timely completion of projects.Responsibilities:Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance operational efficiency and drive business growth.Oversee daily operations, ensuring that all departments function smoothly and effectively.Manage profit & loss statements, identifying areas for cost reduction and revenue enhancement.Lead, mentor, and supervise team members to foster a productive work environment.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support project management initiatives.Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement best practices across the organization.Drive sales strategies to increase market share and achieve business objectives.Monitor industry trends and competitor activities to inform strategic planning efforts.Analyze project drawings, blueprints, and technical documents to understand the scope of work.Calculate the cost of materials, equipment, labor, and time required for excavation projects.Obtain and evaluate quotes from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers.Estimate indirect costs such as permits, transportation, waste management, and safety measures.Review and analyze project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to understand the full scope of excavation work.Work closely with leadership to develop detailed excavation plans, including scheduling, logistics, and resource allocation.Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and timelines for clients and leadership teams.Conduct site visits when necessary to assess soil conditions, access points, and environmental factors.Compile comprehensive bid proposals based on estimates, including pricing breakdowns, timelines, and contingency plans for unexpected site conditions or changes in schedule.Serve as a point of contact for clients to clarify and explain estimates, adjustments, and timelines.Collaborate with clients, leadership, team members, and other trades to align excavation work with the overall project objectives.Provide recommendations to optimize costs without compromising project quality.Identify potential risks associated with the project, such as soil conditions, weather, and site accessibility.Develop contingency plans and adjust estimates as needed.Monitor project costs throughout the duration of the project to ensure alignment with the original estimate.Update estimates as necessary due to changes in project scope or unforeseen circumstances.Maintain detailed records of all estimates, bids, contracts, and project documentation.Provide regular reports to management on cost variances and project profitability.Requirements:Proven experience in management with a focus on construction, heavy equipment operations, or related fields.Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide teams towards achieving goals.Experience in strategic planning and execution within a business environment.Knowledge of profit & loss management principles.Demonstrated supervising experience with the ability to manage diverse teams effectively.Background in business development with a focus on growth strategies.Proficient in project management methodologies with a track record of successful project delivery.Extensive experience in construction and excavation, with a strong understanding of estimation, techniques, tools, and materials.Strong leadership and negotiation skills, with the ability to work with a diverse team.Proficiency in interpreting construction drawings, plans, details, and specifications.Excellent communication skills for negotiation, effective coordination, and information sharing.Strong problem-solving abilities to address challenges and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast-paced environment.Time management skills to manage schedules, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.Attention to detail and a commitment to multitask, while ensuring a high level of accuracy.Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.High School diploma or GED equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or a related field a plus.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and QuickBooks required; certification a plus.Experience in Procore Construction Management Software preferred.2+ years of experience in an Estimator role required.Performance Metrics:The success of the role will be measured through the following:Revenue Growth: Track the increase in revenue generated from new and existing business initiatives.Profitability: Monitor profit margins and ensure they meet or exceed company targets.Team Performance: Evaluate team productivity, engagement, and retention rates.Process Improvement: Track the number and impact of implemented process improvements.Join our team as an Operations Manager and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our organization!
