SVP/Director, Portfolio & Asset Management – CREFinancial Services – Chevy Chase, MDOur client, a fast-growing commercial bank and lender, is hiring a Director/SVP of of Portfolio & Asset Management to join their expanding CRE Finance team!This is a net-new, senior leadership role created to support aggressive portfolio growth across a national commercial real estate book spanning multiple asset classes. The position will manage a growing book of CRE loans (across multifamily, hotel, industrial, retail, office) leading a team of 3-4 portfolio managers.The role offers a competitive compensation package (Base + Bonus), a hybrid work schedule (3-4 days in office), high visibility with senior leadership, and the opportunity to build and shape a scaling portfolio management function at an institution on a significant growth trajectory.Responsibilities:Oversee a portfolio of commercial real estate loans — tracking borrower performance, escalating credit concerns, and managing risk across both stabilized and transitional assetsManage and mentor a team of portfolio managers, distributing workload and maintaining oversight across the full loan bookAct as the primary relationship contact for assigned borrowers — driving compliance with loan covenants, anticipating upcoming needs, and managing extension and modification requestsAdminister the full asset management lifecycle: periodic risk reviews, impairment testing, draw approvals on construction credits, and resolution of distressed positions including REOLead workout efforts on underperforming loans, coordinating legal and operational resources to achieve resolution efficientlyProduce portfolio-level reporting and credit summaries for senior management and executive stakeholdersPartner with originations and underwriting teams across the platform to support deal flow and credit continuityManage back-office functions tied to the loan portfolio — collateral custody, insurance and tax tracking, vendor payables, and regulatory audit supportQualifications:Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred10–12+ years of experience in portfolio management, credit risk, or commercial real estate lending at a bank or commercial finance companyStrong CRE Portfolio Management experience — monitoring operational performance, loan modifications and approvals, borrower funding requests, and risk management across asset classesExperience managing both performing and challenged credits, including workouts and REOPrior experience leading or mentoring junior team members in a player/coach capacityProcess-oriented with the ability to build and improve workflows in a fast-moving environmentStrong communicator across borrowers, internal underwriting/originations teams, and senior leadership
