Backend Node.js Developer

The Planet Group has partnered with a Boston area company to locate a full-stack developer with strong backend Node.js skills for a full-time role.This is a hybrid role and candidates should expect to be onsite three days a week. The ideal candidate will be a Senior Engineer who thrives in early-stage environments and enjoys building meaningful products from the ground up. This role is ideal for an engineer who is strongest on the backend but comfortable contributing to modern frontend applications.You’ll play a key role in shaping the architecture and feature development of a high-impact SaaS platform, working closely with a small, collaborative engineering team. This is a hands-on position with high ownership, direct product influence, and significant technical autonomy.If you enjoy solving complex backend challenges while still contributing to user-facing experiences, this is the right opportunity.Please note: This is a full-time role and no sponsorship is available for this position. Applicants should be able to work directly on a W2.Responsibilities:Design and implement scalable backend services and APIs (REST and/or GraphQL)Architect and maintain server-side applications using Node.jsModel and optimize relational databases (Postgres/SQL), including schema design and query performance tuningBuild and improve features within a modern React-based frontend (Remix, Next.js, or similar)Develop and maintain infrastructure in AWS (Lambda, ECS, API Gateway, RDS, IAM, etc.)Manage cloud environments using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK)Improve system scalability, caching strategies, and overall performanceContribute to product direction and technical decision-making in a small, high-impact teamOccasionally collaborate cross-functionally and support customer-facing discussions when neededRequired Skills/experience: 5–10 years of professional software engineering experienceStrong backend experience with Node.js and server-side application designDeep familiarity with AWS services and cloud architecture best practicesHands-on experience with Infrastructure as CodeStrong understanding of relational databases and schema modelingExperience designing and maintaining APIsExperience working with modern frontend frameworks (React, Remix, Next.js)Proficiency in TypeScript (or strong JavaScript with TypeScript experience)Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical fieldComfort operating in a fast-paced, startup-style environment with high ownershipPreferred skills: Experience building applications within the Shopify ecosystemExposure to AI/LLM integrations or multi-agent architecturesAutomated testing experience (e.g., Selenium or similar tools)Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG/ADA)Experience working in early-stage startups or an interest in future entrepreneurshipInterested candidates should apply by clicking on the link.
