Teacher-Special Education Long-Term Substitute (2026-2027)

The J. Turner Hood Elementary School is seeking a full year Special Education Teacher Long-Term Substitute for school year 2026-2027. North Reading Public Schools is actively looking to build a diverse workforce to ensure all students feel welcome, safe, and valued for who they are and supported to reach their potential.This assignment is tentatively from hire date through June 17, 2027 (the anticipated last day of the 2026-2027 school year).North Reading Public School Educators first contractual day is September 1, 2026. New educators are required to attend the two day new staff orientation on dates still to be determined.Essential dutiesDirect instruction of studentsMonitor student progress on an ongoing basisServe as the IEP liaison for students in the classroom, and complete all associated state mandated paperwork, including progress reports and chairing annual review meetingsConduct three year re-evaluation testing and other testing as appropriateSupport student inclusion opportunities through the implementation of behavior intervention plans, and appropriate engagement strategiesMaintain and manage all the required responsibilities of the special education process including academic, behavioral, and social skill instructionData collection and analysisTestingCollaborate with general education Teaches and special education staffAttend faculty and department meetings as directedCollaborate with parents/guardians and outside providersOther duties as determined by the building Principal, Director of Student Services, or their DesigneeRequirementsBachelor's Degree in a related fieldMassachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education teaching license in Students with Moderate Disabilities, grades PreK-8Strong interpersonal skillsCollaborative working demeanorExcellent oral and written communication skillsCitizenship, residency, or work visa requiredThe North Reading Public Schools (NRPS) provides a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment where students develop both their social-emotional and academic skills and abilities through an exploration of a wide range of content areas, the arts, athletics, and extra-curricular opportunities.
