DescriptionUNC Health Johnston - Smithfield, located in Smithfield, NC, has a new OB Hospitalist Program and is seeking experienced OB Hospitalist Physicians to join this exciting initiative. This is a 100% inpatient, in‑house, Per Diem OB Hospitalist role offering a predictable schedule, strong clinical volumes, and the opportunity to help shape a growing program within the UNC Health system.This OB Hospitalist group will operate as a separate, dedicated team supporting labor and delivery services at Smithfield, with long‑term strategic growth planned for Johnston County.Position HighlightsNew OB Hospitalist program began April 1, 2026Employed position within UNC Health Medical GroupDedicated OB Hospitalist model – no outpatient clinicLevel II NICU at UNC Health Johnston – SmithfieldStrong, established referral base with consistent clinical volumeOpportunity to participate in program development and growthPosition ResponsibilitiesProvide 24/7 in‑house Per Diem OB Hospitalist coverageManage obstetric triage, labor, delivery, and postpartum carePerform all deliveries at the Smithfield campusProvide GYN care for cases presenting through the Emergency DepartmentCare for:Unassigned patients presenting to the EDPatients from the UNCHMG Traditional OB/GYN group at SmithfieldCollaborate with CNMs, nursing staff, anesthesia, and hospital leadershipSupport quality initiatives, patient safety, and team‑based careSchedule24/7 in‑house coverage required1–2 (24hr) per diem shifts per monthOne OB Hospitalist in house per weekPhysicians must remain in house during shiftsNo outpatient or call‑back responsibilitiesCandidate RequirementsMD or DOBoard Certified or Board Eligible in Obstetrics & GynecologyPrior OB Hospitalist experience requiredACLS certification requiredCompensationCompetitive OB Hospitalist Per Diem Hourly RatePaid malpractice insuranceAbout Smithfield, North CarolinaSmithfield offers the charm of a close‑knit community with the convenience of being just 30 minutes from Raleigh.
