Technical WriterContract Duration: Contract through 03/31/2027 (with strong possibility of extension)Location: Jackson, MI, (Hybrid is preferred, can be remote if candidate is in Michigan and able to meet in person when required)Position OverviewCMS Energy is seeking a skilled Technical Writer to create, maintain, and enhance clear, accurate, and user-friendly standard work documentation. The ideal candidate will work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), operations leaders, and continuous improvement teams to capture best practices, ensure process consistency, and support operational excellence, safety, quality, and compliance. This role requires translating complex procedures into concise, visual, and standardized work instructions.Key ResponsibilitiesStandard Work DocumentationDevelop, edit, and maintain standards, procedures, and work instructions. Translate complex processes into clear, concise, and repeatable documentation. Ensure standard work reflects current-state processes, best practices, and regulatory requirements. Collaboration and Process CapturePartner with SMEs to observe and document processes accurately. Facilitate workshops, interviews, and process walk-throughs to gather technical content. Work closely with Lean, Quality, Engineering, and Operations teams. Support change management by updating documentation following process improvements. Visual and Digital ContentCreate visual aids such as process maps, flowcharts, and visual work instructions. Use diagrams, photos, and other visuals to improve clarity and usability. Manage documentation within document control or knowledge management systems. Quality, Compliance, and Continuous ImprovementEnsure documentation complies with quality standards, safety requirements, and internal controls. Support audits by maintaining accurate, controlled, and traceable documentation. Identify gaps, redundancies, and opportunities for improving standard work. Measure and enhance documentation effectiveness based on user feedback. Required Skills & CompetenciesStrong technical and procedural writing skills Experience in process mapping and workflow analysis Attention to detail and high accuracy Excellent organization and time management skills Clear and effective communication with stakeholders Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities Education & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience
