Join a team where your voice matters and your work make a difference.OverviewThe Civil Designer supports engineers and project managers by preparing detailed civil design narratives, drawings, and specifications for a variety of projects.The Civil Designer will utilize hydraulics and hydrology to assist with stormwater design calculations for storm and sanitary piping networks, detention/retention basins, release structures and water quality devices.The Civil Designer will utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D to draft site layouts involving buildings, roads, sidewalks, parking lots, pipe profiles and roadway sectionsThe Civil Designer will assist with the design and layout of utilities such as storm, sanitary, gas, telecom and water.The Civil Designer will utilize Geotechnical reports and their understanding of flexible and rigid pavements to assist with grading plans and roadway designThe Civil Designer will assist with the production of accurate design documents, coordination with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and project requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesWorking with the Civil Director, Departmental Staff and Project Managers to meet KZF’s goals and objectivesCoordination with other disciplines such as Architecture, Landscape Design, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, and Plumbing as needed to produce site plans that meet the project scope and construction budgetAssisting with the preparation of design narratives, calculations and site plans for all phases of design (concept, schematic, design development and construction documents)Maintaining technical accuracy and understanding constructability, code conformance and the appropriate level of detail for project designsParticipating in internal and external meetings, design charrettes and presentationsAssisting with design and engineering for a broad range of project types involving Commercial, Educational, Industrial, Healthcare, Civic and Federal facilitiesPreparing documents and design plans in conformance with KZF and/or local, state or federal Governmental standardsConducting site visits and field investigations to collect data, understand project requirements, project limitations and client needsConstruction administration involving onsite meetings and inspections to verify design parameters and specifications are metQualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (from ABET accredited US college) or related field Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D (required) Understanding of civil engineering principles; grading, drainage and utilities Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting and design Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams Strong communication, writing and organizational skills Prior experience in civil design or drafting (internship or professional) is a plusPreferred Skills Successful passing of NCEES FE exam Desire to take the PE exam and become a Professional Engineer when eligible Experience with an Engineering/Architectural firm through co-op or post graduate work Experience with GIS software Knowledge of local regulations and permitting agencies Familiarity with stormwater modeling tools (e.g., SSA, HydroCAD, HEC‑RAS ) Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlinesWHY JOIN KZF DESIGN?Collaborative and inclusive work environmentOpportunities for professional growth and leadershipCompetitive compensation and benefitsCommitment to design excellence and community impactBenefitsMedical & Dental Insurance401(k) Retirement Plan with company matchPaid Time Off & HolidaysProfessional Development SupportCollaborative, Inclusive Work CultureRecognition as one of Cincinnati’s Top 100 Places to Work since 2021To ApplyPlease submit your resume, cover letter, and portfolio (if applicable) to www.kzf.com/careersKZF Design is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
