Title: Mechanic Reports to: Engineer Manager Department: Set Up Mechanic Supervises: N/A Organizational Relationships Works for the Production Department but must also interface with the Engineering Department to maintain efficiencies. Basic Function Performs set up, repair, preventative maintenance and on line adjustments to production equipment. May also make modifications to improve reliability and/or speed of equipment. Responsibilities Class "II" is responsible for having all machinery assigned to them (certain, specified production and/or processing equipment and machinery) in a department in good running condition, correctly located and properly adjusted for scheduled production. He or she must be capable of diagnosing and correcting machine failure or the need for scheduled preventative maintenance on assigned production equipment. This covers all "on line" adjustments, repairs and modifications. He or she must be able to recognize the need for major repairs and know the correct channels for obtaining rapid assistance for such aid. He or she must have a general knowledge of the production equipment, its maintenance requirements, set up procedures and applications relating to the production machinery. He or she must know GMP regulations concerning housekeeping, recordkeeping, cleaning and sanitation procedures of all production equipment assigned to them. Responsible for following all safety regulations including but not limited to, wearing goggles, face shields, welding helmets, proper clothing, equipment lockout procedures, etc. Must be capable of learning and improving skills for advancement. Must be able to work as an assistant, or under the direction of, other mechanics of a higher classification. Responsible for the proper documentation of machine operation through the use of downtime and/or preventative maintenance sheets on assigned equipment. Bartelt horizontal form, fill, and seal equipment set-up experience preferred. This description covers the most significant duties performed, but this does not exclude other occasional work that may be required in conformity with the job grade. Qualifications High School diploma required. Five years experience or technical school training equivalent as a mechanic (or related craft). Knowledge of machinery and assembly line functions and operation of same. Ability to comprehend technical training manuals, blue prints and specifications. Good mathematical ability.
