Automation Design Engineer YOUR ROLE We are seeking a qualified, motivated individual to join our company as an Automation Engineer. As part of our team, you will create automated systems for use in a dedicated or multiclient warehouse/fulfillment setting. You will collaborate with departmental and site leadership to determine existing automation capabilities and current client opportunities (Existing or RFP response), creating detailed drawings and processes for automation projects that support our business objectives. Our ideal candidate has a detailed understanding of AMR’s, AGV’s, Conveyor/Sorter systems, robotics and ASRS applications. Along with a need for superb problem solving and communication skills. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? Design and implement automated systems for use in diverse dedicated or mixed client fulfillment centers. End to End or Task level automation expertise - unloading, putaway, replenishment, pick, pack (or packaging), ship, etc. Lead collaborative discussions between departments and key stakeholders to determine automation return on investments and capabilities. Create detailed road maps to guide automation projects from conception to final implementation for Wholesale, Retail, and Ecommerce channels. Support existing automation technology with component and process upgrades. Assist with training and developing engineering staff to include on the job training, reviewing work and studies, and assisting with feedback for systems designed. Perform more comprehensive engineering analytics and system reviews, such as collecting, reviewing, and analyzing data, forecasts and related information. Develop proposals for quoting and to outline current or proposed engineered designs, layouts, capacity, equipment, and operations; operations are more comprehensive in nature. Prepare presentations for senior management regarding recommendations of studies and projects; may assist with presenting information. Coordinate cost models, assumptions and risks for projects that are typically larger in scope. Lead and/or develop standard operating procedures, work instructions and related materials. Coordinate the planning or outline of work, time, and efficiency studies, talk with supervisors and employees, and discuss with customers to apply and monitor operations. Identify and deliver on project milestones, communicate with stakeholders, remove complex obstacles and ensure a variety of resources are available. Develop specialized or more comprehensive metrics and goals for programs, oversee performance, and work with staff when potential problems are identified to bring to resolution. Coordinate internal resources to respond to internal or external customer requests, such as gathering, analyzing and summarizing information. Travel up to 25% WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR? Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education and experience; Master’s Degree in related field, preferred. Typically, at least seven years of experience, including some specialized or complex work specifically within fulfillment center automation. Capable of applying specialized professional industrial or mechanical engineering principles and practices. Capable of ensuring operations comply with applicable laws, rules and regulations with the ability to apply across operations. Credentials: Professional certification may be required in some areas. Skills: Ability to leverage several systems and tools for engineering management and oversee and ensure the accuracy of specialized systems through auditing, reviews, and analysis. Ability to develop specialized analytics, reports and communications within engineering and operational design. Ability to develop complex and related specialized cost for operational designs. Characteristics: Able to communicate specialized engineering and operational information and facilitate communication across customers, operations and other groups.
