We’re an equal opportunity employer and welcome all qualified applicants.Published Job DescriptionWe are seeking an experienced Independent Coding Auditor to perform quality audits on outpatient coding staff, with a strong focus on Interventional Radiology, Cardiology, outpatient surgeries, observation, ED E M, and infusion services. This is a 1099 contractor role with remote work and variable, on call hours depending on audit volume.The Coding Auditor is responsible for reviewing coding accuracy for CPT, ICD 10 CM, and modifier usage, ensuring all coding meets official guidelines, payer rules, and internal compliance standards. This role requires strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. JOB DUTIES:Conduct retrospective and prospective coding audits for outpatient IR, cardiology, surgeries, ED E M, trauma, infusion, and related service lines.Validate correct CPT, ICD 10 CM, and modifier assignment, ensuring compliance with NCCI edits, NCD and LCD requirements, and payer policies.Review complex operative reports, radiology documentation, and clinical records for coding accuracy and documentation sufficiency.Prepare detailed audit findings and summary reports, identifying trends, recurring issues, and areas for coder improvement.Provide clear, constructive feedback to coders, outlining corrective actions and education needs.Support the achievement of departmental coding quality benchmarks at 95 percent or higher.Identify systemic documentation or workflow issues and recommend process improvements.Assist in resolving claim edit discrepancies and coding related queries.Maintain confidentiality and comply with AHIMA ethical coding standards and organizational policies.Perform related duties as assigned.WORK STRUCTURE:1099 independent contractor position.Fully remote.Variable or on call hours depending on audit demand.Contractor must provide their own equipment.JOB REQUIREMENTS:Active coding certification such as CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CCA, CPC, COC, or CIRCC.CIRCC certification is highly preferred due to specialty complexity.Minimum 3 years of outpatient facility coding experience.Strong experience in interventional radiology and cardiology coding preferred.Formal training in ICD 10 CM and CPT coding.Strong knowledge of NCCI edits, payer rules, and federal and state compliance guidelines.Experience performing coding audits is preferred.Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.Ability to work independently and meet turnaround deadlines.Proficiency with coding software such as EPIC and 3M HDM.Excellent written communication and documentation skills.Strong computer and typing skills.ADDITIONAL SKILLS:Excellent organizational and time management abilities.Ability to work under pressure and adjust to shifting audit priorities.Strong customer service and professional communication skills.High attention to detail and accuracy.Familiarity with medical terminology and outpatient clinical workflows.
