We design and manufacture drone-in-a-box systems that automate repetitive drone operations, taking humans out of the loop so the people who depend on aerial data can move faster. The RoleAs a Mechanical Engineer I on the Hardware team at Hex, you’ll work hands-on across the full product lifecycle, from CAD design and fabrication to test setup and validation. You’ll build parts, jigs, and fixtures, assist production, run experiments, and present results that directly inform design decisions. Most of our design work lives in Fusion 360.This is a great role for a recent graduate who is eager to get their hands dirty, learn fast, and contribute to hardware that flies in the real world. Experience with UAVs or drone systems: academic, competition, or personal is a strong plus. ResponsibilitiesDesign mechanical parts, assemblies, jigs, and fixtures in Fusion 360 that meet functional, manufacturing, and assembly requirementsFabricate components using FDM, SLS, MJF and CNC machiningBuild and manufacture hardware components for Hex’s UAV drone and dock products under the guidance of senior engineersPlan, build, and execute test setups to characterize components and subsystems mechanical, environmental, and functionalCollect, analyze, and present test data clearly; translate results into actionable design insights for the teamAssist production operations: assembly support, process documentation, and build quality checksSupport root cause analysis on hardware issues, contributing to corrective actions and design improvementsRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (new graduates welcome)Proficiency with 3D CAD software: Fusion 360 preferredHands-on fabrication experience: 3D printing, machining, sheet metal, or similarStrong attention to detail and comfort working with physical hardwareAbility to plan and execute structured tests, log data accurately, and communicate findingsSelf-starter mindset with a willingness to take ownership and learn quicklyPreferred QualificationsExperience with UAVs or drone systems: academic projects, competition teams, or personal buildsFamiliarity with GD&T and engineering drawing standardsExperience with fixture or jig design for manufacturing or testKnowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM) or design for assembly (DFA) principlesExperience with data acquisition tools, sensors, or test instrumentationParticipation in engineering competition teams: Formula SAE, Baja SAE, combat robotics, or similarExposure to aerospace, robotics, or consumer electronics hardware developmentLocationThis role is based in person at Hex’s Miami, FL headquarters. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary.
