Hydraulic Engineer
Akel Engineering Group is an established firm with a successful track record for completing water resource planning studies and digital twin based hydraulic models and master plans throughout the state of California. The firm has a great job opportunity for a water resource engineer with 1-5 years of experience in hydrologic and hydraulic engineering to join our team. The position includes working on developing state-of-the-art Digital Twins (computer models that mimic real world) for water/wastewater/stormwater pipeline infrastructure hydraulic, hydrology, and condition. This is a great opportunity to grow in an advanced technology environment, while working and learning from senior water resource engineers.
H&H is very remote-friendly, though only available for experienced applicants. Entry-level applicants will be considered for work in Fresno, California.
*Job Responsibilities*
* Develop, calibrate, and maintain hydraulic models for water distribution and/or wastewater collection systems (e.g., InfoWater Pro, ICM Infoworks, AquaTwin Water and Sewer, PCSWMM, EPANET)
* Perform system capacity analyses to support master planning and capital improvement program (CIP) development
* Conduct fire flow, pressure, and water quality analyses for distribution systems
* Perform sanitary sewer evaluation studies (SSES), I/I analysis, and collection system capacity assessments
* Support development of master plans, including demand/flow projections, infrastructure needs assessments, and phased improvement recommendations
* Prepare technical reports, memos, and exhibits summarizing modeling results and recommendations
* Assist with GIS data integration and management for model development
* Collaborate with senior engineers, planners, and clients/utility staff on project deliverables
* Assist in preparing proposals and scopes of work for future projects
*Required Qualifications*
* Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering (or related field)
* 1–5 years of relevant experience in water/wastewater hydraulic modeling and/or master planning
* EIT certification (or ability to obtain); PE license or progress toward PE preferred for higher end of range
* Working knowledge of hydraulic/hydrologic modeling software (e.g., Bentley WaterGEMS/WaterCAD, InfoWater Pro, AT Water and Sewer by Aquanuity, InfoSWMM, EPA SWMM, EPANET, PCSWMM)
* Familiarity with GIS software (ArcGIS or similar)
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and technical writing
*Desired/Preferred Skills*
* Experience with model calibration and validation using field data
* Knowledge of water/wastewater regulatory requirements (state DEQ/DEP, EPA, CWA/SDWA compliance)
* Familiarity with SCADA systems and flow/pressure monitoring equipment
* Experience with asset management and CIP prioritization tools
* Strong communication skills for client interaction and report writing
* Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
