Assistant Controller
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesOwn and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy and timelinessReview and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure completeness and compliance with GAAPPrepare and review financial statements, variance analyses, and management reports to support business decision-makingEstablish, maintain, and continuously improve internal controls over financial reportingLead efforts to document, standardize, and optimize accounting processes, including support for ERP system implementations or conversionsIdentify and drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and reporting capabilitiesSupport external and internal audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company requirementsPartner with leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis initiativesAct as a key contributor on time-sensitive projects and cross-functional initiativesProactively communicate financial risks, issues, and key insights to the Controller and leadership teamReview work performed by accounting staff; provide coaching, training, and ongoing development supportServe as a subject matter expert for system enhancements and process changesAct as backup to the Controller, providing leadership support as neededPerform additional duties as assigned to support overall accounting and finance operationsRequired Skills & AbilitiesStrong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirementsDemonstrated success managing and improving the month-end close processExperience designing, implementing, and maintaining internal controls and accounting proceduresAdvanced analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detailProven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, complex formulas, financial modeling)Ability to interpret financial data and present insights clearly to leadershipExcellent written and verbal communication skillsHigh level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion with confidential informationProcess-driven mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and operational efficiencyEducation & QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required7+ years of progressive accounting experienceStrong experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reportingPrior experience reviewing or supervising accounting staff preferredExperience with ERP systems and system implementations or conversions preferredConstruction accounting, job costing, or WIP experience preferred
