About the job Correctional Deputy Probation Officer IIn this position you willProvide direct supervision, support and positive engagement to youth in the department's care and custodyEngage and support youth in educational and recreational activities, living, dining and work assignment activitiesWrite, document and enter incidents/reportsCoordinate the transportation of youth to court and other external visitsMinimum QualificationsPossess a U.S. High School Diploma, GED or equivalentMust be 21 years of age at the time of appointmentMust have a valid California Class C drivers license at the time of appointment, or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel.Qualified applicants must meet the minimum standards for California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) as stated in Government Code Sections 1029 and 1031.All candidates are required to take a treadmill test. This test entails moving on a treadmill while the speed and incline is increased, in stages, every 3 minutes.Ideal CandidateExperience working in a youth treatment program (i.e. group homes, residential facilities, juvenile correction, behavioral health rehabilitation facilities) or community-based therapeutic programs which included casework, individual and/or group counseling, juvenile rehabilitation, probation and parole, or social work for youth (12-21 years of age)Passionate about youth development and juvenile rehabilitationThrives in a fast-paced, team oriented environmentCommunicates effectively orally and in writingCan hold themselves and others accountableValues and respects othersMaximize team effectivenessSupportive and adapts quickly to changeBackground QualificationsMust have a reputation for honesty and trustworthinessFelony convictions will be disqualifyingMisdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recencyPrior to appointment, candidates will be subject to a thorough background investigation which may include a psychological, truth verification or other examination or testMust be found by a licensed physician to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental conditions which might adversely affect exercising the power of a peace officerWorking ConditionsMay be required to work a variety of shifts (some lasting seven days), which may include days, nights, weekends, and holidaysMay be required to work a schedule that includes twelve (12) hour shiftsMay be assigned to correctional institutions located in remote areasMay be exposed to an environment of hostile, or aggressive behaviorJ-18808-Ljbffr
