Mill Operator – Programming Experienced

Union Tech (uniontechmfg.com) is a global, integrated manufacturer of oil tools, including upper and lower completion tools, sand control tools, and highly engineered valves. Union Tech is headquartered in Houston, TX with manufacturing and distribution facilities located worldwide. Our production department is currently seeking to fill a CNC Mill Operator with programming experience. This position requires strong knowledge of CNC programming, machining processes, tooling, workholding, and inspection. The successful candidate must be able to work from engineering drawings and specifications, develop efficient machining programs, and produce parts that meet dimensional, quality, and delivery requirements. Key Responsibilities Create, edit, and optimize CNC milling programs using M16 Fanuc machine controls. Program and operate 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC milling equipment, as applicable. Review engineering drawings, models, specifications, and tolerances to determine appropriate machining methods. Develop machining sequences, tooling requirements, cutting parameters, and workholding strategies. Set up machines, fixtures, vises, tooling, probes, and offsets. Perform first-piece machining and verify dimensions before releasing parts for continued production. Troubleshoot programming, tooling, dimensional, surface-finish, and machine-performance issues. Make program and process adjustments to improve cycle time, tool life, quality, and repeatability. Inspect completed work using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring equipment. Ensure parts conform to drawings, work instructions, inspection plans, and customer requirements. Maintain accurate setup sheets, tooling lists, program revisions, and manufacturing records. Coordinate with engineering, quality, production planning, and other machinists to resolve manufacturing issues. Support new-product introduction, first-article inspection, and process-development activities. Identify opportunities to reduce setup time, machining time, scrap, rework, and outside processing. Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. Follow all company safety, quality, and procedural requirements. Required Qualifications Minimum of three years of CNC milling, setup, and programming experience. Demonstrated ability to independently program, set up, and operate CNC milling machines. Strong understanding of machining practices, cutting tools, speeds and feeds, workholding, and fixture design. Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and surface-finish requirements. Experience machining carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, Inconel, and other oilfield materials. Proficiency with precision measuring and inspection equipment. Ability to diagnose and correct dimensional, tooling, and process-related problems. Ability to work with limited supervision and manage multiple priorities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Fanuc, Haas, Mazak, Okuma, or similar CNC controls. Experience programming horizontal machining centers and 4-axis or 5-axis equipment. Experience machining complex oilfield, downhole-tool, valve, or drilling-tool components. Working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Experience developing fixtures and supporting first-article qualification. Previous experience in an ISO 9001 or API-regulated manufacturing environment. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and work around manufacturing equipment for extended periods. Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds with appropriate assistance. Ability to safely handle tooling, fixtures, raw materials, and finished components. Ability to use personal protective equipment as required.
