Join us as we help redefine how energy is delivered, managed, and sustained for generations to come.Due to continued growth, our Power Delivery group is seeking a Substation Engineer - Protection and Controls in one of the following office locations:Dallas, TXHouston, TXOrlando, FLTampa, FLPalm Beach Gardens, FLOverland Park, KSResponsibilitiesImagine a day where you’re designing the backbone of the power grid—drafting substation layouts, running protection and grounding analyses, and fine-tuning relay settings that keep energy flowing safely. You collaborate with engineers across disciplines, solve real-world challenges, and see your designs come to life in the field. Every detail you contribute will help power entire communities—safely, reliably, and sustainably.Substation Design & Drafting: Develop electric substation drawings, including single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, and control building layouts. Work closely with the Civil Engineering department to develop substation foundation and structure drawingsEngineering Analysis & Calculations: Perform substation design calculations and analysis such as ground grid analysis and design, lightning protection, voltage drop, and conduit fill. Perform analysis for protective relaying settings (e.g. short circuit, coordination and protection) and PT and CT sizing determinations (e.g. CT saturation, PT and CT ratio)Protection & Control: Develop relay settings for various protective features with the aide of other departments and external vendor relay application engineersTechnical Documentation & Specifications: Develop technical equipment and construction specifications and work scopesCollaboration & Quality Assurance: Work closely with peers to ensure accurate and on-time delivery of electrical design that meets client and industry standards, specifications, and good engineering practicesField Support: Providing on-site technical support for select ENERCON clients during construction and commissioning as required QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university Minimum of 6 years of experience in Substation engineering, with a primary focus on executing protection and control projectsNon-senior roles will be considered with 3+ years of experienceFamiliarity with relay protection schemes and relay logicBasic understanding of SCADA designExperience with MicroStation and AutoCADStrong familiarity with NESC, IEEE, and other applicable codes and standardsWillingness to enter energized electric substations with proper training and PPEMust be self-driven in time management to meet deadlines and provide accurate deliverables, with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholdersMust be proficient with typical office software including Microsoft Windows and Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Willingness to travel for client site visits and project meetingsPreferred Qualifications / SkillsExperience working in electric utility industry, preferably in fast-paced consulting environment500kV substation engineering experienceProfessional Engineer (PE) license, with active NCEES record for reciprocityField testing/commissioning experiencePay RangeUSD $93,100.00 - USD $170,000.00 /Yr.Additional InformationENERCON Services, Inc.
