The Solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Technician II monitors the Solar & Energy Storage farm’s availability and ensures mechanical and electrical maintenance is being performed when necessary to maintain established safety and operating targets. Responsible for executing daily scheduling philosophy utilizing a prioritized list of work provided by planning, with a focus on maximizing generation and ensuring proactive work is prioritized and completed.
Role Responsibilities:
Test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV & battery storage electrical equipment
Ensure that all assigned maintenance tasks are performed safely and in accordance with site operating procedures established for Storage/Solar PV sites
Complete Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), JSA’s, Permit to Work, and job-specific documentation that is required to conduct maintenance and repairs in a safe manner
Proactively look for improvement opportunities in job-appropriate processes and procedures
Perform data collection and prepare reports to meet reporting requirements
Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required
Perform maintenance on BESS, trackers, inverters, and other PV electrical equipment as assigned by the Site Supervisor or Lead
Monitor the activities of maintenance contractors and ensure corrective actions where appropriate
Perform current and voltage readings as necessary
Document all work and generate reports as necessary
Identify gaps in safety standards and safety risks in the environment
At times, may assist with BOP activities
Use available tools to monitor energy output and respond quickly to emergencies or situations requiring
immediate troubleshooting and corrective actions
Ensure site protocols perform site access, site HSE, security, deliveries, and inspections
Interface with any 3rd party contractors working at our facilities
Available to respond to nontraditional operating hours for operations, maintenance, and emergent issues, including emergent abnormal operating conditions, execution of maintenance, tracking work orders, and resolution of O&M issues
All other duties as assigned
Job Requirements and Experiences:
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Associate degree in engineering or related Science from an accredited US school, other than correspondence or internet preferred
A minimum of 2 years of work experience in operations and maintenance of power generation, transmission, and distribution. Preference will be given to the candidate with some experience in renewable energy, preferably solar and battery storage is required
Unrestricted driver's license in good standing required
Willing to relocate to within a 1-hour drive of the site
Must be skilled in at least one of the following: power plant operations, electrical, and mechanical equipment maintenance; substations maintenance; power plant safety protocols
Work in extreme weather conditions
Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the workday
Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures
Ability to work within tight deadlines
Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to and over 50 lbs.
Routine operation of a computer/tablet and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and a computer printer
Frequent oral and written communications
Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
Complete all required training in a satisfactory manner and timeframe
First aid/CPR/AED preferred
OSHA Certified preferred
HVAC Certified preferred
Shift work
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time
Must pass physical fitness tests required for the company
Ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites as assigned, including supporting other sites
Ability to work in varying climates as required
Must live within a 1-hour drive from the site unless agreed by HR and the hiring manager
This position is a combined field and office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE office and field locations
