Driver Operations Manager
Position OverviewThe Operations Supervisor is responsible for leading the daily execution of residential and commercial collection operations within a high-volume transportation environment. This role oversees approximately 27 collection routes and a team of 30+ drivers operating across multiple shifts. The supervisor ensures safe, efficient, and compliant service delivery while maintaining high standards of employee performance, customer satisfaction, and operational productivity. This position serves as a key member of the operations leadership team, partnering closely with the Operations Manager and fellow supervisors to drive continuous improvement, workforce development, and operational excellenceKey ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Workforce ManagementLead, coach, and develop a team of drivers and collection personnel to achieve operational, safety, and customer service objectives.Recruit, interview, onboard, train, and evaluate employees while fostering a positive and accountable work culture.Conduct performance reviews, provide ongoing feedback, and administer corrective action when necessary.Ensure proper staffing levels and daily workforce scheduling to support route completion and service commitments.Promote employee engagement, retention, and professional development.Operations ManagementOversee daily execution of residential and commercial collection routes, ensuring all scheduled services are completed safely and efficiently.Monitor route performance, productivity metrics, and service levels to identify opportunities for optimization.Collaborate with dispatch, maintenance, customer service, and management teams to resolve operational issues and improve efficiency.Ensure accurate completion and submission of driver logs, vehicle inspections, route reports, and operational documentation.Review operational data and KPIs to drive performance improvements and cost control initiatives.Manage labor utilization, equipment deployment, and resource allocation to maximize operational effectiveness.Respond to and resolve customer concerns, service interruptions, missed collections, and escalated issues in a timely manner.Safety & ComplianceChampion a strong safety culture through leadership, accountability, and proactive engagement.Ensure compliance with all DOT, CDL, FMCSA, company, and regulatory requirements.Conduct routine field observations, ride-alongs, and route audits to reinforce safe operating practices.Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, completing all required documentation and corrective action plans.Facilitate regular safety meetings, training sessions, and toolbox talks.Monitor the proper use and availability of PPE, safety equipment, and required operational supplies.Fleet & Asset OversightPartner with maintenance teams to ensure vehicle inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance schedules arefollowed.Monitor fleet condition and driver-reported defects to minimize downtime and service disruptions.Support efficient utilization of equipment and company assets.QualificationsRequiredHigh School Diploma or GED.Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience in transportation, logistics, waste management, trucking, distribution, or related operations.Experience managing CDL drivers and field-based operations.Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and driver compliance regulations.Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and employee coaching skills.Proficiency with operational software, Microsoft Office, and reporting systems.PreferredAssociate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Transportation, Operations Management, or a related field.Previous experience within waste management, environmental services, recycling, transportation, or route-based operations.Experience managing both residential and commercial service operations.Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience.
