Machine Shop Supervisor
JOB DIMENSIONS:
Job Summary:
The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations; holding the department accountable to clearly defined expectations; ensuring efficient production; adhering to quality and safety standards; allocating tasks to lead personnel and operators according to production requirements; ensuring the department is well-equipped with necessary tooling and hardware; conducting quality inspections on in-process parts, and manages employee performance through regular evaluations, coaching, mentoring, and reporting.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Daily Accountability: Work with the team to ensure that daily goals are achieved, identifying the root cause of issues that keep the team for achieving its goals, while at the same time ensuring that overarching initiatives and projects are progressing according to their schedules.
Training & Development: Train and develop employees in the safe operation of CNC machinery to fulfill production targets efficiently.
Work Assignment: Allocate tasks to lead personnel and operators based on current production needs and machinery availability.
Safety Enforcement: Uphold and enforce stringent safety standards, ensuring all activities are conducted in a secure environment.
Quality Control: Perform random quality checks on in-process parts to adherence to quality standards, working with management and the quality department to address root cause analysis as well as Corrective Action execution.
Resource Management: Ensure the department is adequately stocked with essential tooling and hardware to maintain seamless operations.
Performance Management: Monitor employee performance, conduct regular evaluations, and prepare performance reports.
Employee Relations: Coach and mentor employees according to company standards. Provide feedback on employee performance and behavior to manager.
Record Keeping: Accurately monitor work records and manage production reporting through company systems.
Policy Adherence: Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Project Management: Coordinate with management on short- and long-term projects designed to improve department performance.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent of, but not limited to, the following:
Experience/Training/Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Degree in manufacturing/industrial engineering a plus
Certification from apprenticeship or equivalent programs a plus
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in machining and/or manufacturing-specific fields;
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a leadership role;
Ability to effectively manage personnel and interpersonal relationships;
Ability to create, read, interpret, and execute instructions;
Proficiency with computers required;
Proficiency with common industry software including but not limited to: Microsoft office and related software, ERP systems, labor collection software; common CAM software knowledge a plus;
Ability to read and interpret production blueprints;
Skilled in use of all types of precision measuring equipment;
Knowledge of basic math;
Ability to analyze and solve machining and production problems;
Knowledge of shop floor data collection systems;
Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques;
Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with others; and
Ability to assist in employee selection, training, supervision, and evaluation.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to occasionally reach, bend, stoop, lift, and move parts, tooling or inspection equipment weighing 50 pounds or less;
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time; and
Ability to perform essential functions of the job, as defined;
