About the Role
Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI) New York office is looking for great people to join our Team! We are looking for a Construction Inspector who will have the opportunity to work on an innovative project. We are a leading engineering firm known for quality, responsiveness, and a proven track record of success as a Prime civil engineering firm. As the Construction Inspector, you will work closely with the Resident Engineer to ensure conformance with standards, safety, and contract requirements. Essential Duties/Functions and Responsibilities
Coordinates activities and schedules with utility companies, contractors, property owners, and other agencies.
Examines quality of finished installations for conformity to industry standards.
Handles complaints either personally or by referring to the Resident Engineer.
Maintains daily reports of construction activities and performs filing duties.
Measures distances to verify the accuracy of dimensions of installation.
Observes work in progress to ensure that procedures and materials conform to plans, specifications, and contract documents.
Performs work following safety policies and procedures.
Prepares sketches of construction installations that deviate from plans and incorporates changes into as-built drawings.
Records quantities of material received.
Responsibilities may include an entire project or may focus on one specific project area.
Reviews field staking and makes revisions within the scope of authority.
Takes progress photos of the construction activities.
Verifies levels, alignment, and elevation of installation using the surveyor's level.
Works under the general guidance and direction of a Senior Construction Inspector or a Resident Engineer.

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
Ability to effectively communicate technical information, orally and in writing, professionally to contractors, developers, property owners, employees, consultants, governmental agency representatives, and the general public.
Ability to operate a personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
Ability to prepare, organize and maintain inspection field and office data.
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university.
Completed NYDOT's Certified Technician Program (CTP) by passing all six (6) tests.
Completed NYDOT's proficiency test.
Considerable skill in reading and interpreting construction drawings, plans, specifications, and contract documents.
Knowledge of industry Standards and Specifications for different agencies.
Knowledge of MOT Standards and Erosion Control Measures.
Knowledge of OSHA requirements: personal and workers' safety.
Legal citizenship or permanent residency.
Skill in applying material testing procedures.
Skill to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the general public.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record for the past three years.

Work Conditions
IEI will provide a company vehicle for fieldwork with acceptable driver's record.
Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.
Sometimes needs to put in extra hours, including weekends, to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
Usually works in outside weather conditions.
Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work outdoors in various weather conditions, possibly for an extended period, depending on the assignment type. The noise level in the office work environment is usually moderate. The noise level on the construction site is often loud and may require hearing protection.
